  • Abbreviations that no longer mean the same thing...

I have a subscription to Entertainment Weekly magazine. They use the abbreviation EW...and every time I see it now, I think Entitlement Whore.

    Any others?

Oh boy. There are a few.

For instance, we throw around the term SC in here a lot. But being a sports fan, I watch a lot of ESPN, and of course SportsCenter....or SC.

I remember when PDA meant "public display(s) of affection." Now, of course, people refer to PDA's as their personal electronic devices, cell phones, palm pilots, etc.

Then there is my personal favorite, DSL, which is nowadays a very familiar computing term. But I remember not too long ago when it was a rather coarse term, used on women do describe a very particular physical feature. To wit, it stood for "dick-sucking lips." Today you might say that your entire family has DSL, whereas back in college we would say that Angelina Jolie had DSLs. I still laugh whenever I hear someone talking about how much they love (or hate) their DSL.

Every time I see "FSM" on here, I think "Flying Spaghetti Monster".

ETA: Wait, I'm not making this up, am I? This is actually used on here as a type of manager or something, right?
