  • I have puppies!!

Or, I will in a couple weeks. As I said in my other thread, my boyfriend and I bought a house And since my boyfriend is a dog person and has put up with me and this last years' horrible cat issues, we were thinking of adopting a dog. So, I was peeking at petfinder and looking up local shelters/rescues to have the information ready for after we moved.

Well, that was a big mistake. Of course I had to look at the dogs they had up for adoption. And we found not one, but two dogs. They were a pair that had been thrown out of their house this winter when the temp. (with wind chill) was hitting -20 - -30 degrees F. (Not sure what that is in C.) Someone found them close to death, huddled together to try and stay alive.

They came into the rescue program already knowing Sit, Stay, Shake, and Down. They're also house trained. So somebody worked with them, and then just threw them out.

So, let me introduce you all to my new puppies!

They're names are Jokes (the black and white Boy) and Lady (the gray and white girl).

It's wonderful to see a pair of dogs get pulled out of a shelter situcation and into a good home.
Congratualtions for you and the pups!!

I bet they'll be thankful, too. (Just expect some digestive issues in the very beginning (up to a week) as they adjust to the water and new food - I would recommend giving them some molases (a tablespoon or two?) when you feed them (most dogs like the flavor, too).

Thanks Draggar And yes, everyone can pet them According to the foster home, Jokes likes to lift his leg in new settings, so he gets to wear a doggy diaper at first (belly band)

Well....it looks like I counted my chickens before they hatched.

We were supposed to pick the dogs up tonight, at 6:30. It's 4:30 right now, and about two hours ago we got a call from the rescue organization saying that the owners decided that they were going to keep the dogs.

Because the kids promised to take care of them now.

For two months they were saying how they didn't have the money or time for the dogs, and that they couldn't keep them, they HAD to go before March 28th. We went out and spent very close to a thousand dollars to get everything we needed for them, and they decide TODAY, 4 hours before we were going to take them, that they want them.

I'm so pissed that I'm in tears now. And the poor woman who had to break the news to me is just as upset, because we both know that as soon as something comes up that makes the dogs an inconvenience, they'll dump them somewhere.

Oh that's horrible! How could someone do that? Can't the people at the shelter do something?

It's not a shelter It's a rescue group that fosters the animals in their homes. The owners had said that they'd foster the dogs until March 28th at the very latest.

We're not done fighting for the doggies yet. We're gonna try everything we can to talk sense into these people. I just can't believe that they'd do this. Not at the last second.
