Default It's not that hard

*ring ring ring*

Who the fuck is calling the landline at midnight? Nobody uses that line this late, is it some kind of emergency? Hmm, don't recognize the caller ID...

Me: Hello?
Man: Hello?
Me: Hello...
Man: Can I speak to Shakeesa?
Me: I'm sorry you have the wrong number.
Man: Are you sure?
Me: No, I have no idea who lives in my house. Yes, sorry, goodnight. *hangs up*

A few minutes later

*ring ring ring*

Oh, Christ, he better not have hit redial.

*looks at phone* Yup, same caller.

Me: I'm sorry you have the wrong number.
Stupid Bitch Woman: Well how do you know?!!
Me: Because I just received a call from this number and it was the wrong number.
SBW: Well that's because he asked for the wrong person!!
Me: Nobody calls this line at midnight.
SBW: That's because we're in a different time zone!
Me: Look, you have the wrong number.
SBW: No I don't! Somebody from that number called us!
Me: No one here made any phone calls.
SBW: Someone there called us. They called *insert jumbled string of numbers here* no wait *other string of numbers*!!
Me: Ma'am, no one here made any phone calls, you have the wrong number.
SBW: Rabble rabble Shakeesa rabble rabble What does this bitch need..
Me: *click*

*ring ring ring*

Me: *click*

Upon further investigation of my caller ID she got her phone number wrong.

Not that hard, and yet far too hard for them.

When I first got my cell phone, the number was pretty close to the local Traveler's Aid number so I used to get calls from people who would ask me to look after their daughter on flight so and so. They'd leave messages even. I answered for one person...
Me: Hello
Person: My daughter is on flight so and so, she's connecting at your airport, could you make sure...
Me: This is not the airport....the number you want is....(at this point I knew what the aiport number is)
Person: Are you sure?
Me: Um...let me check....No planes...Yup..not the airport...

Note: Just because you're a moron doesn't mean the rest of the world is full of morons.

My first apartment had a number formerly used by a pizzeria. As long as four (4) years after that I kept getting calls for pizza orders.

we are one numeral off the non emergancy line for a rural area close to us... 4-5 phone calls a week for it, most people have been polite so far theres a few who have called in the early hours...

I dont mind them nearly so much as the telemarketers who call at 4am....ugh

I guess the non-emergency callers are innocent enough though.

Recently I've had two calls, ringing for the same person who doesn't live at my address. Now, one time it could be the business rang the wrong number or wrote the wrong number down. Twice, and you're starting to annoy me.

I wouldn't mind if a) we had just recently got the number in the past couple of weeks and it was friends calling, b) someone had entered the wrong number or something.

It's happened twice, from businesses. So I am assuming that said person doesn't know their own number, or are purposefully giving out the wrong one...

(Oh, and within the first month we had a couple of people ring up for a different person, and they were friends, so I don't think she had the number before us...)

My wife used to get calls on her mobile from some bloke looking for "John"
Of course it was never his fault that he'd dialled the wrong number. His arguments were
*This must be John's number
*Where is John?
*Look, this is John's number
*We've just spent a lot of money having business cards printed with this number (sucked in then mate you've wasted your money)
*I'll sue you.
After that last one we went to the cops. Officer was a nice young lady who'd had similar problems herself. John's mate called while we were at the cop shop so the nice lady officer gave him a stern talking to and told him she had his number (from the caller id) and he'd be charged with harrasment if he called again.

We still got a new phone number just in case (no fees from the telco as there was a police report). Couple of days later we get a call asking for "Steve"
not again!
Turned out that it had been Steve's number in the past but he must have cancelled his contract and we ended up with the number. Have to admit I was a little peeved with the telco for solving our problem with harassing calls by giving us a number that had only recently been used by someone else.
Steve's mate however was very nice and never called us again.

I have had the same mobile number for the last 12 years. Every year for about 7 years I used to get a call from a landline on the other side of the country, with some guy asking for 'Gary'. As it was always about the same time of year, I assumed it must have been 'Gary's' birthday and said friend was calling to wish him well.

Took him 7 years of calling to get it thru his head that he had the wrong number. Not really sucky, but annoying.

I get a call twice a year for someone Ive never heard of, and they always leave long holiday wishes entirely in spanish. Ive always managed to somehow never pick up the phone when they call.

Also, with my old cell number, I used to get calls for "Tricia". All times of day, from all kinds of people. Apparently she stopped going to work, and I got calls for her from her boss, he left a very long detailed message about how we went on a limb for her and she screwed him. I also got a call from a clinic confirming her appt for abortion counseling. I dont know who this lady is, but I know more about her than I probably should.

Also, my home number is one number off from Subway. LOL. So I get those calls also.
