Red face I honestly thought it was a prank call!

This happened last year on April Fool's day. Like any other store, we get prank calls on that day and just go along with it. Some of them are pretty funny and give us a much needed laugh.

One I recieved that really wasn't a prank, just a result of the customer mumbling over the phone:

Woman: *mumbling* Do you have small talking ferrets?

Me: Talking ferrets?

Woman: *still mumbling* Yes, I'd like to buy a small talking ferret, a green and blue one.

Me : LOL, very funny, but I'm afraid we don't sell blue and green talking ferrets. We do have brown and white ones that go "Eeeeeee"

Woman: *now shouting and sounding much clearer* I saw them the other day, small PARROTS, I just wanted to know if they talk! Are you a moron?

Me: Parrots? Um, no they don't talk. I'm sorry, I thought you were a prank caller asking for small talking ferrets.

She hung up. I still feel embarrassed about it, but the SM only laughed when I told him later that night. Apparently he got the same call from what I assume was the same woman, and he thought she was saying "Ferrets" too.

I bet that women will probably never call us again, since it seems to her that two of the employees are out of their minds.

That's funny, especially since it didn't happen to me.

That reminds me of another story someone once told me about hearing the customer wrong, and it got him in trouble. I don't remember who it was, I don't think I even really knew the guy, probably a friend of one of my friends I was hanging out at the bar with. Anyway...

He was working at a garage when this happened. He was doing some kind of outside work in front of the shop, when a woman pulled up in her car, and asked if they had a vacuum. He told her they didn't, but if she wanted to come around back, he'd "blow it out with an air hose."

For some reason, the woman got really angry and upset, and left. Sometime later, he found out that she had asked if they had a bathroom.

Default Phone oopses

Talking ferrets!

I'm new here, so I'll just tack this story onto this thread, since it involves the phone and mistaken identities and/or prankiness.

I answered phones at a large car dealership. My cousin called me at work to say that she met this guy who was hot for her, (and she for him, too) and that night his car broke down. It turns out he had it towed to our dealership. She told him that her cousin (me) worked there and that I'd take care of him, as VW service could be a pain to get through to a live person. She told me his name and I told her I'd be on the lookout for him.

The next day the phone rings and I see his name on the caller ID. I answer the phone with the name of the business and tack on "Hey, I heard you think my cousin is HOT!". He says "Excuse me?"

I catch myself and apologize and do a quick explain. It turns out it was the guy's father, hence the last name popping up on the caller ID. We had a good laugh about it and I did take good care of him, er, I mean, his son....
