  • Good vibes, please?

My beagle, Charlemagne, is very ill, he's suffering from some sort of neck ailment that's been bothering him for the past few weeks. Even though he's on medication to help the pain and relax the muscles, it hasn't been helping and he's been screaming whenever we try to touch him, especially tonight; and he can barely walk. He's not that old (well, 9) and unfortunately...we don't have the funds to take him to the specialist; we barely had enough to cover the vet only a week ago. I'm betting $1200+ for him to be seen and possibly operated on or else for his medication. I'm scared to have to have him be put down, but if we don't have money then what else can we do?

Good vibes, good thoughts and/or prayers for his healing and/or enough for us to be able to cover the bills for the specialist? Please, it will be appreciated, more than you can say.

    Thank you all, so much.

              ........

He's....dead...we have to put him to sleep, he's paralyzed...we took him to the emergency room last night and he was fine, but then this morning he laid there, my mother took him to the vet and he's paralyzed...

              MY DOG! *sobs*

Edit: *deep breath* Mum is back from the vet. He's apparently NOT paralyzed, just overmedicated from the shot last night. They're keeping him at the vet overnight to make sure he'll be ok. Then he'll have to have an MRI and possibly surgery. But now the price has doubled. =/ $3000 for everything.

              *prays*

He's home and he's very much paralyzed, his right hind leg is dead but his right foreleg seems to be ok. But, there might still be a glimmer of hope. We're giving him medication that he seems to be responding to and he's trying to get up but he can't. We're watching him, we're trying to be with him but he's whimpering and crying and breaking all of our hearts. If, by Monday, he's not made any forward progress, he will have to be put to sleep. Final total is officially $4000-6000 to bring him to the neurologist in Maine, for the surgery. And even then, he will probably not be better.

All I can think about is how much I will miss my boy, my baby, hearing him bark and how he liked his treats and the feel of his velvet ears and so on.

                  *sobs*

                  Edit:

This might be a crazy or even a stupid idea (I've been chewing over it all morning), but if I can find the funds, if I can talk to the right people and get it going, I'd like to create a fund in his honor (or in his memory...) so that people with similar situations can have some money for saving their own animals instead of having to suffer like we are. I don't even know where to start, though. Pointers, please?

Sending hugs your way. I've been in that position, and it's a horrible place to be. Just know that you've done all you can for him, and give him as much love & support as you can.

                      Tuesday afternoon.

...We're making arrangements with the cemetary and the vet.

...Anybody got a spare $6000 lying around? Spare $1000? $100? A jar of pennies?

Edit: The paralysis is spreading to his left side now, his good side. My baby...by this time tomorrow he will be nothing but a memory.

It's hard as hell losing a furbaby. Whether cat or dog or small rodent, it SUCKS.

Just remember - he's no longer in pain and suffering, he's in a place where he can chase bugs and sniffle EVERYTHING and pee EVERYWHERE. He can have freedom, sunshine and loves from the other people/critters up there. He's in a much needed place.

Big squishy hugs and choc cookies *hugs*

                              ralerin,

You have my deepest sympathy. I am sure that Charlemagne knows how much you love him.

It is not crazy. It is not stupid. It is a very loving idea.

                              My personal suggestion:
Make arrangements with your local Humane Society to take donations in memory of Charlemagne. And while you are there, think about sharing all the love that you obviously have with one of the less fortunate residence.

Please let us know what you decide to do. I would like to make a donation.
