Default Septa on strike

Well, it has happened, though earlier than expected. Speta, the mass transit org in Philly, has gone on strike. it was said they wouldn't go on strike until after the world series, but what they really meant was "we won't go on strike until the world series is no longer in philly. as you can plainly see, the world series is still going, but the last game in philly was last night, so at midnight last night they went on strike immediatly.

Although this doesn't impact me with my mod of transportation being a bike, it impacts me when I am on the road. because not only are busses missing and I don't have to look out for them... there are now 10 times more cars and taxis on the road to take their place. traffic, accidents, idiots who aren't used to driving in the city, let alone with a bike on the road with them, are clogging the roads.

I had to dodge 3 cars on the way to work who switched lanes while I was in them. Had to force my way into the bus/bike lane when the bike only lane went away. not to mention the cyclists who don't follow any laws are now even worse. they zig zag through blocks of cars, still fly through intersections and freak out people who normally don't drive in the city. I was lucky I leave my house 15 minutes earlier than I need to, because I refuse to ride on the sidewalk or inbetween cars in the business district, so I was in the traffic with everyone else.

it's a mad house... I only hope the strike ends before this weekend. mostly because I have a party at my house this saturday, and lots of people won't be able to make it without mass transit being open again.
