Default A trio of nuts

First nut: A woman asked me to get a price check on an item that rang up $1.09 that she said she saw a sign for $1.08. Yes, that's right... she wanted a price check for a PENNY difference.

Second nut: A woman had this package of little cheeses that came up regular price and she said it should be half price and there was a sign. So I ask the manager to do a price check, and she tells me to call the dairy department. So I do, but I'm not getting an answer. The woman decides to take it upon herself to go to the aisle and find the sign. She finds the sign, but it's only for a certain variety of that cheese and she did not get that one. The manager says I can't honor it, and the woman does not like this at all. She rambles "This kind of thing happens to me every week! I want to see a store manager!" So I direct her to one and he brings her over to the department and gets her the right cheese. She blames it on the employees putting things wrong but then becomes all nice all of a sudden after getting her precious cheese.

Third nut: This one takes the cake by far. A woman gets a pan that is really $15.99 but an old tag for a price of $7.99 was still on the shelf so she has a price check done. The manager informs her that the sign is old and the department just forgot to take it down but they will honor that price. The woman doesn't find this enough though. She wants the pan free and claims that she has been shopping here for 20 years and knows all of our policies and it has always been that if the item comes up the wrong price she gets the item free. Two things wrong here though:
1. That policy, when we actually had it (we no longer have that as an official policy anymore) was only for items up to $10. Items more than $10 only get $10 taken off.
2. The item itself scanned correctly, it was that the sign from when it was on sale was not taken down. Free items aren't given away because of human error.
However, the woman still will not listen to this. She says that giving her the item for $7.99 instead of free is unfair and that we are not giving her any favors. She demands a store manager and he tells her the same thing. She just ignores him the whole time though just rambling on and on about how our policy says items not coming up for the sale price are to be given free, she's been shopping here 20 years, and she is not getting any favors by us letting her have it for $7.99. And for the record, I've NEVER seen this person in the store before.

Ugh. Queen of the EW's! I hope the manager told her that that policy hasn't been in effect for YEARS.

If I was the store manager, my next move would be to tell her:

Ok, you want to pay nothing for this pan. Well, I'll let you pay nothing, but you're not going to get this pan. In fact, you're going to pay nothing and leave here with absolutely nothing!

If the issue continued to escalate - banishment for a month, 2 months, permanently, call police to have her prosecuted for trespassing, harassment, etc..

Actually, yes, giving it to her for 8 bucks -- which is the deal that was offered -- is doing her a favor indeed.

Also, if she had really been shopping there for twenty years, you would all know it and recognize her! There would be no need for her to make that claim...Assuming, of course, that your store has been around for twenty years...

I do believe it. Offering to give her the pan for nearly half off because of a mistake. Quite reasonable. Expecting it to be given to her for free? Maybe if it cost five dollars or less. But honestly.

All hail the Empress . . . no, that's the wrong card. She's the devil. Or at least the reversed Queen of Swords - nasty.

In some SC's minds the "I've been shopping for 20 years" means that SC was there once for 20 years ago...
