Carina16's thread reminded me of this one.
Some poor guy was sitting in a bus shelter in our town when a vehicle came barreling up the street. Unable to get out he moved over as far as he could. Good thing as the car came up on the curb and pulverized the bus shelter. Then the driver backed up and ran off. Leaving behind the front bumper. Which has a license plate.
From what I heard from the police it was a rental car, one has to assume he just parked it at the airport and left rather than checking it in (the associate who came out to check it in must have had a _major_ WTF moment!).
He was charged with hit and run, the rental agency declared the car totaled and supposidly he's going to have to come back for a court appearance. Ten-to-one he never shows...
