A note on Subarus - My brother drives like a complete and utter asshole (like he handles much of his life, really), and up until his latest (a Saturn, this time), he's usually gotten Subarus because of a variety of vehicle-related stuff that I don't care about, but that matters to somebody who tends to be hard on his vehicles.

Not sure how accurate this is, but apparently the 2012 Forester is pretty reliable for it's class.

Otherwise, I'm useless for this sort of advice; most of the people I know who have SUVs never don't ever use them for what they'd be best at and they're just some sort of gas-guzzling status symbol. I don't generally care for them, myself. (people or vehicles)

It's not so much that I don't like them as that I've had two of them, and of the two, both sucked more than porn queens.
      What year and make?

I've had a couple of Dodges and they've both been amazing.

1971 Dodge Colt, 1987 Dodge Shadow Turbo.

And I don't doubt that there are good Dodges out there. But the sour taste they left me, especially the Shadow, was strong enough where I just can't be bothered, even if the truth is that there are plenty of good Dodges out there.

Scoobies are exceptionally well built cars - they are used a lot by farmers here in the UK. They're also very capable off road too.
Yep, I've heard that too. They're highly prized because of their handling and winter behaviors. However, they're a bit thirsty when compared to cars that do not have all-wheel-drive though. Another make you might want to check out, are the Toyota SUVs. Loads about, and they tend to go on forever.

Protege, I believe you....my friends Neets and Golf Boy have three vehicles between them, so when I visit Phoenix, I never need to rent a car. They have two relatively new Toyota Corollas (I think), and one 1998 Toyota 4Runner that simply won't die. This last trip, it was the vehicle I was given to use (unlike in September, when I was given the white Toyota, which is damn efficient, has spunk, and despite its very bizarre clutch, has a gearbox that works like the finest butter).

            Mental note: definitely consider Toyotas.....

Don't know how either of those go, but I hear you about the bad taste. I've got that for Fords, myself.

Ah Ford...the other F word First car I had was an '87 Tempo. That car, and the local Ford dealer's actions kinda turned me off to Fords in general.
