  • sucky security guard aggravates me!

Well I haven't posted a story in a while. It's the busy summer season.
This security guy was with a tour group, so I guess he's not technically a customer, since he wasn't technically staying there. He was supposed to look after this group of basketball kids (god, those kids were HUGE! What kind of vitamins do they take?!) This group cause many problems for us.. but back to the stupid security guard.
So this guy shows up late, and the chaperones were like, Where IS he?! to us, like we're supposed to know, their tour group books him. So finally he comes, and I must say, I've worked with LOTS of security people, and nearly all of them were idiots, but this guy makes them look like Einsteins. He is looking all of 19 years old, struts in wearing REALLY baggy clothes, and slaps a paper in front of my face, on my desk. I recognize is as a paper I have to fax saying that everything is toasty to the tour group company I think. Like I said, I've done this before. It's obvious they've booked this guy at the last minute. But right then I was busy with another customer trying to buy something. When I finish with that customer, I look up. The stupid idiot is gone, his paper is still there, making me think that he's strutted off somewhere, maybe to the bathroom. Whatever. The phone starts ringing, and of course, some other customer comes up wanting towels. Policy is people first, phone second. I put the phone on hold and get some towels.
When I come back, the stupid security guard is there, scowling at me. I give the other the towels, and pick up the phone, knowing he can wait. He doesn't like this.

Stupid security guy: *disgustedly* SO! You're gonna wait on other people EXCEPT me?!?!
Me: *sarcastically* That's the plan (I don't have to be polite since he's not technically staying there )
SSG: Everyone else, huh? *snatches paper & storms off cursing*

Sorry, buddy. No where in the list of duties does it say to wait on belligerent security guards. =P And I hate it when people just throw stuff at me and walk away, and then expect me to wait on them. Stay if you want service.

Well, that I guess, made him declare war on me. Because soon enough I got a noise complaint on the 2nd floor. The group is on the 2nd floor. 9 times out of 10 noise complaints are because of groups. I go to investigate.

When I get there SSG is sprawled at in one of our chairs, listening to his ipod. It's pretty quiet. I cock my ear, listening. I hear noise, but where is it coming from?

"There was another room makin' the noise," SSG informs me lazily. "It wasn't my group."

"Oh, really?" I say skeptically. I walk up and down the hallway listening, trying to figure out which room it was that was making the noise. SSG doesn't like that, but I bet he doesn't like anything.

"I wouldn't do that if I were YOU," he said threateningly, getting up and coming over to stand next to me real closely to intimidate me.

He was about half a foot taller than me, but rather than backing off, I was angry now."Excuse me?!" I say, dumbfounded. Who is he, thinking he can tell me what to do?!

"I wouldn't do that if I were you," he repeats in a growl. "It was a group of girls from another room makin' the noise!" he spits.

"I have to know which room to make a report," I say.

When I get back to my desk, i write a report....about HIM. I say that he was rude and arrogant and tried to tell me my job, which is true. Soon after a group of girls comes to my desk. They are very upset.

"SOme security guard told us that you were writing a report about us making noise," one of them says. "He came and knocked on our door!"

    What!

I couldn't believe this guy. I told them, with my vein bulging out of my forehead I'm sure, that I was writing a report about HIM, not THEM. They, probably seeing how angry I was, nodded and quietly went back to their room after a few minutes. One even asked me if I was okay? Was everything all right ? I assured them that it was the stupid security guy and they understood....

A few hours later, I get a mass of obscene prank calls, all from SSG (I recognized his voice). I write about that too.

The GM later saw what I wrote and was very upset with the way SSG acted, especially the part where he was bothering those girls. He made the sales manager complain to the tour company and never book them again. The AGM sees what happened and was very surprised. "A security guard?" He keeps saying over and over, like he's never heard such a thing. I've had security guard just stand by and watch as drunken customers tried to strangle me, or run nude scaring the little children. But SSG takes the cake IMO.
    Can't reason with the unreasonable.

I luckily dealt with somewhat lazy guards, but this guy is nothing but a thug!
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

Amen. I thought the guard I deal with was bad. Mine doesn't know shit and always sends lost people to my floor (even when what they are looking for is in a completely separate building). But at least he doesn't behave like a butthurt 5-year-old like this petulant assclown.

I wonder if you could have gotten away with calling the cops on him and report him as a strange man wondering the hallways. When he starts to act up around the cops, say, "I wouldn't do that if I were you!"

          What a fucktard.

Especially when he started threatening you with "I wouldn't do that if I were you".

          He's lucky he wasn't arrested.

Wow, that guy doesn’t deserve to be in security.

Reminds me of the time a group booked the conference center at our hotel. They had displays and vendors. They hired an outside security company for when the conference was open; I was security at the hotel, but they only had us on the overnights, and we were a different company than the one the group hired. This group CONSTANTLY complained to the hotel about how ‘their security’ hadn’t caught this thief, or ‘their security’ hadn’t done this or that. Well, all their complaints were of things that happened when THEIR security was on duty! The hotel told them sorry, they hired them, perhaps they should complain to the event coordinator. Besides, the hired company wore brown and tan, my company wore navy blue!

Argghhh..I work in security and this assclown makes me twitch. If I acted the way this guy did, I would be fired in a heartbeat, no if's, and's, or but's about it.

In regards to him telling that roomful of girls that you were checking them out regarding a noise complaint, that's massively unprofessional. Us security guards are expected to practice discretion, and NOT go around running our mouths like that, especially where such mouth running could open somebody else up to retaliation, or other trouble.

Talk about an embarrassment to the profession!

Wow. My brother also works as a security guard. (Managed to land himself a job at a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert.) He's in his early 20's himself.. I'm sure if I pointed this story out to him, he'd be appalled by this guy.

If I'd been the girls, I'd have then asked if you could call the police, as I no longer felt safe with him RIGHT OUTSIDE MY DOOR. Think that might have gotten you the permission required to do so?

This little thug needed to meet Mr. Shiny Handcuffs and the group would probably be safer without him. He's the kind that would start fights just to prove his power, which makes me hope like heck this idiot wasn't carrying a gun...

I've worked security for campus events when I was in college.

My job was traffic control, and just to keep an eye on things. We were told to be unobtrusive for the most part, and only get involved to protect property and safety.

Messing around with event staff doing their jobs was an absolute no no.

Unfortunately in contract security you get a lot of dipshits like that. Companies are almost always desperate for guards but pay crap(just barely above minimum wage)so they hire anybody off the street without really making sure there competent and the scary part is that company's are so desperate for guards that they let them get away with a lot of stuff before they get fired but eventually they will screw up enough times at enough sites and get turfed but even then my company for example hates to fire people and will just try and faze them out by giving them less and less hours till they quit. I have many stories of stupid guards i've worked with that just make wonder how in the hell they even function in day to day life
