The Lounge had just closed for the night. All of a sudden, I see a large guy in an orange sweatshirt virtually tackle a skinny man in a black T-shirt. Skinny guy proceeds to move quickly away from Large Guy, hands up in the classic "get the hell away from me you psycho" defensive pose.
I rush to get Security, but by the time I can get him, LG has gone. SG is at the desk, crying, and scared. He contacts his boss (LG is SGs supervisor!) to tell him the situation.
No too long afterward, SG comes up to the desk to get a room. He is apparently supposed to be rooming with LG. During this, I tell him what I saw, and ask him if he would like me to call the police. At first he is sure he wants me to call them, but, moments later, he hedges, and asks what I would do. I let him know that if I call the police, and they arrest LG, they will tell him exactly why he is being arrested, and he will eventually find out who filed charges. The guy keeps talking about how he has a new born kid that he needs to provide for, and how he just can't take the way LG acts anymore. He decides to hold off on calling the police, and instead decides to get his stuff from the room. I ask him if he NEEDS this stuff (mainly because we don't need a fight in the halls at this point). He says that his buddy told him that LG wasn't there, and I told him that he should hurry and get his stuff before LG comes back. SG was pretty much sobbing the whole time.
Seconds later, the Bartender comes around with Security, I tell them where he went, and Bartender informs me that LG had thrown his phone at SG, and then physically carried him out of the bar. They decide to go to that side of the hotel, to make sure that nothing happens. I grab the portable phone, and follow soon afterward, to be ready to call that police should it become necessary. When I get there, Security is talking to SG's friend, who can't understand why his 2 co-workers act the way they do. Security then knocks on LG's room to talk to the guy.
Security tells LG exactly what was witnessed, and LG brushes it off like we saw him smack SG on the back of the head (which is still assault and battery). When Sec tells LG that's not the case, LG asks if his hand was open or closed when he hit SG.
I pipe up with "What does that matter?"
LG and Security talk for a few minutes, some highlight include:
That if we call the cops to have him arrested, his boss will "have him out in 10 minutes", because LG is the "big boss on the road".
The reason that LG hit SG was that he was always whining about his personal situation, punctuating these statements with "What kind of man is that?"
That he bought the alcohol for his whole group, and they shouldn't complain when he horses around with them.
LG's a Marine and not afraid of anybody.
When I went back to the lobby, SG was just coming through with his stuff. Security and I both told him about the conversation with LG. He still wasn't sure if he wanted us to call the police, and I gave him the number to call if he decided to do so.
So, how was your night?
