  • Good feedback so far by workers

[Mods: if this is in the wrong section, please move it to the appropriate place.]

Aside from all the Black Friday and weekend chaos, has anyone ran into workers who have had positive experiences on Black Friday?

My wife and I slept in on Friday morning for a bit (as opposed to getting up at 5 am to go shopping). Office Max had a 32 GB flash drive for $10 but were sold out of them. We looked around at K Mart, I got my hair styled differently (never have by a stylist before), then we went to The Original Pancake House. I always like to engage the waiters & waitresses in conversation as I'm sure they're tired of demanding customers. The waitress we had said that the customers that got the deals they wanted would be friendly to her and overtip, while the shoppers who didn't get what they wanted took out their frustrations on the staff. The waitress seemed happy to talk to us though.

After that we did go out to Radio Shack and they had a good amount of the 32 GB flash drives in stock. The sales staff seemed generally happy and in a good mood, despite having to be there so early. I asked one salesperson, "So what unGodly hour did you have to be here today?", and he explained jokingly with stress in his eyes. I asked the same for the friendly staff at the Depot of Home, and they seemed content. Overall, iether the amount of traffic wasn't as as bad as they thought and the stores still made out like bandits, or they had reasonable and calm customers who simply looked for another deal and were not so pissy.

Anyone else have unexpectedly happy days on Black Friday?

The last one I worked in retail I had to be there at 345am to cashier. The first 10 minutes were busy in electronics (Wii was still hard to get then) but the next 2 hours was slow. I was put on an express lane for food items only, and told to enforce the limit. One person with a full cart tried to get lippy until they heard a throat clearing behind them and came face-to-face with the State Trooper in uniform getting lunch/snacks on his way to work.

I avoided going out this year as the only "big" stores in this town are Walmart and Safeway. Pretty much everything else is fast food or casinos.

well i went shopping last year after i got off from my 12.5 hour shift. so by that point i was in a good mood cos i was off work. and it's not like i hadn't done 12+ hour shifts before. (go navy!)

found some soaps i really liked at B&BW, although the cashier was a bit jealous that i only worked 11 to 1130... tho i think she thought i meant "30 minutes" and not 750 minutes. Hah.

This year it was pretty light since I normally don't shop on that day, aside from a few exceptions: One year I got groceries that evening, and a couple of years ago I dropped the car off for a check engine light cos it was the only day i could get it in.

but this year it was video games, the dog park, and to-go mexican food for me. for my bf it was going to a coworkers house to move furniture (only the man wasn't home cos my BF was one day early ROFL!), then spending some time to himself on base, hitting one store on the way home, and then joining me for the dog park etc.
