  • Hidden under a cart

So, I was at Wally world the other day and went to use the self-checkouts. Two were closed so I went to one that wasn't.
However, in front of one of the closed checkouts was a cart in front of it.
I didn't think too much about it - maybe it was there to show people that YES, it was CLOSED.
Was going on with checking out when I overheard one of the workers going, "What are you doing? Don't clean it up! That's for maintenance! That's gross!" to one of her coworkers who appeared with rags and cleaning fluid.
He says something I can't hear and the other girl says, "Don't go near that! That's gross, leave the piss alone! Maintenance can clean up the pee, we don't have to do it! Yuck! That's why I rolled that cart over there!"

I'm still checking items out and I glance over back at the checkout with the cart and look underneath it; I see a small puddle.

    Ewwwwwwwww

First off, I wouldn't have known what it was or even noticed that puddle was there if I hadn't overheard the worker flipping out over it. I think that she should've been quiet about it because that was REALLY gross to know.

Well if she was quiet her coworker would maybe think it was just soda and clean it up without the proper coverage. I had puke the other day in front of the self check. We blocked it the best we could waiting for the biohazard gear. Every few minutes someone would try to stomp thru the 4 foot wide puddle of puke to use the self check. Then when I would physically get in the way I would get the cat butt face as I carefully explained they really didn't want to walk in puke did they? Then they would argue they were just going around as they attempted to walk thru. Tell them it was a spill didn't work. I had to say vomit or puke to get it thru their head that no they couldn't just plow on thru.

Wal Mart should have orange collapsible cones for them to put down near spills, just having a cart there could be confusing. Of course, they should have just put some paper towels over the puddle and cleaned it up. Urine is fairly sterile, it's probably one of the least hazardous biohazards our bodies produce, especially while still... erm... fresh. Plastic gloves (which should be in their spill stations), lots of paper towels, then some of the cleaning liquid for the belts and the spill is gone no muss, no fuss, no smell. Or some of that absorbent powder, then sweep it up. No need to call maintenance.

My gas station has these kits with this super absorbent kitty litter stuff in them and masks and gloves and blah blah blah. That's what we use. We gotta clean up all sorts of stuff. I've had puke, blood, shit, etc. Now I can't say we've ALWAYS used the kit (you have to call a special service to pick it up and that's a pain in the anus) but we all know how.

          They do.

But they keep getting stolen and usually management is too cheap to replace them. I saw that at my time at Wally.

People on roads drive AROUND orange hazard cones all the time, and then complain when their cars get stuck or damaged as a result. Custys in a grocery store will undoubtedly just walk around said cones...especially if they get the brilliant idea to try for a "slip-and-fall" lawsuit.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen people move the cones. Or out of order signs. Or closed signs. Simply because in their world they have no meaning because, well, that's what the voices in their head tell them.

Also, don't know about Wal-Mart, but where I work it's a fire-able offense for non-salaried management to clean up bio spills. We don't have the training for it (thank God for that one).

The swamp does. You watch the training program on the computer and pass the quiz at the end.

Congraturation, you can now clean up blood, puke, shit and piss.

This training is supposed to be refreshed yearly even though the program itself hasn't been updated in over ten years. I think it's been over a year since I took it.

Heh heh, get out of cleaning up gross stuff card to me. Probably not but I can dream.

Some people just don't get that they need to watch their mouths in public while on the job. We've had this problem at our hotel and had to put our foot down. They haven't done it in a long time now.

That was the problem I had with it.

If they were just a weeeee bit quiter I could've left without ever knowing. Ignorance is truly bliss.

                    Especially in this case.

Same goes for most of the stuff at the spill stations. It was either used and never replaced OR stolen by employees and customers. Never mind corporate policy or OSHA, Department of Health or what have you. Cheap management is cheap. Besides, it's not like they're gonna use the stuff!
