or he would have see/heard that farts are now being shown/talked about on TV in a very blatant and open fashion.

Pepto Bismol is currently running a commercial in its "You're Covered" theme with blatant referances to farts AND AN ACTUAL FART. the commercial in question is 2 guys on a road trip for what I assume is a big college sporting event (most likely a football game) the passenger is dressed in a donkey's head costume and the driver is calling the Pepto "help line" and listing all of the junk the passanger had eaten so far. while on the phone the passenger apparently lets go of a big greasey stinky fart cause the drivers says WHOOOOOOOOO and makes a "I think I gonna be sick face" and sticks his head out of the window.
at the end the two are in the parking lot of the event and the person wearing the donkey head lets go of an AUDIBLE loud fart just as the other guy is putting his head down so they can complete the 2 halves of the donkey costume.
I can not find a on-line copy of this commercial but they are heavily running it in my area
