My mom and sister and I just started a diet and we've decided to make our own yogurt to cut down on sugar (plus it's tastier than storebought plain yogurt). I've made it before but the problem I'm running into now is that none of the stores 'round here sell yogurt cultures anymore.
Some recipes say you can use fresh, plain yogurt to get the starter; usually about 1 Tbsp. I've tried that before though, and it didn't work. Does anyone know of a brand that works? Do I just need to use more?
Also, I'm using skim milk which tends to make the yogurt not as thick. Has anyone tried adding gelatin as a thickener? Does it work?
