Last night I dreamt I was in a world that was split in two. There were entire states that were post-apocalyptic, but if you crossed through the veils, everything would be the same as before.
I joined a party of mages and warriors somewhere in the Great Plains area which was one of the post-apocalyptic places. There were four men and 3 women, not including myself. One of the men was my friend Steve in real life. He was a mage. We were a tribe, like Native Americans, and we traveled all over the region fighting other tribes for food and stuff. I became close to a tall, slightly overweight warrior named Robert. He was very handsome despite having a bit of a stomach on him. He went off to war and told me to go to California to wait for him.
So I did. Orange County, California was in a place that was not affected by the apocalypse. I went to Laguna Hills High School and pretended to be a student there (I went there for my freshman year in real life). I was there four years, and then I graduated, at the age of 25. Robert still hadn't come for me. I didn't know where the rest of my tribe was, and as I was in hiding (because tribe people like me were persecuted in the happy places) I couldn't ask for help. I met up with my friend Jalika (who I went to first grade with and some of high school with in real life) who gave me a place to stay.
Then I went to a pizza place and asked to use their computer to check my bank account. My card had been used for a $600 purchase and it used most of the money I had left to survive on until Robert came for me. I called the bank and they gave the money back for some reason. With my money, I decided to gear up and cross back into the Plains to find Robert.
I found him and the rest of my tribe in a valley after many days and nights alone. I wasn't a mage or a warrior so it was very scary to be alone. Robert had waited for me all those years, he just couldn't come for me because he would have been killed at the border for being a warrior.
I embraced him, and then I woke up.
And I couldn't help but feel that I would have been content to have never woken up again, to have lived in that place, in that world, forever.
I love my dreams.
