It only took 3 months and two days before I was going to deliver the final payment on her, my Dell Inspiron 1501 - Gypsy - came back from the repair center.
I thought we'd be able to do a permanent swap out for the Sony Vaio, but for some reason RTO store's corporate office decided not to approve it (and this was about two weeks after I was told at the store it had already been put into the computer. Go figure.)
I got a call on the 27th of January (two weeks ago Wednesday) at home saying that Gypsy was back. I find this out when Mom came to pick me up from work.
Thursday we didn't get a chance to go by . . . .I was busy between uninstalling programs that I had installed on the Sony, transferring emails to the other account for safekeeping in one of my folders (had just filed my Federal return on the 27th after work so I could get that money in ASAP and do the state return) and spending a couple of hours at the laundromat.
So I went by Friday, 1-29 on my way to work (I was working a 12-2:30 on HBA, then 3:30-9 on register) and of course, snow for then the 2nd weekend in a row. Handed over the checks for Mom's accounts, then just a few moments later, I had handed over the Sony, double checked the Dell as it was being unlocked from the display case to make sure it was the right service tag (which I had memorized well before her trip to the shop in October) and handed over that last check.
Hard drive issue is fixed . . . the repair partition appears to be working okay. So the first week of her being home was spend mainly downloading and installing Windows Updates, of which there were a ton of. I finally had to break them down into smaller sections b/c trying to download 90 or so at a time was just seemed to choke up the connection.
Kinda like overeating . . . when you eat too much you just want to go belly-up for a good long snooze . . .
Had a bit of a problem uninstalling the old version of Norton Internet Security, but after downloading the software removal tool from the Symantec site, all was well.
Now she's running Norton Internet Security 2010 . . . and this version seems to play well with the Microsoft Security Center quite nicely.
Oh crap . . . I forgot to download Thundebird . . .oh well, I can do that tomorrow and finish putting the games back on.
But it's all good . . . my baby's home and she's all mine now. And it feels good to have one more bill off my monthly output.
*doing the happy dance and ready to break out the champagne she didn't get to open for New Year's*
