  • And the "real world" begins...

So I found a room to rent and moved in yesterday. Just have to put everything away.

First day out of the nest and I'm already panicy about money. Moving cost a LOT more than I thought (had to buy a mattress, rent the truck, etc). It's a damn good thing I had money saved, but still be below my Do Not Spend limit after NEXT payday.

Good thing I have a comic to finish. I'll be too busy working on that to worry or go shopping.

Start finding free resources for stuff. If you have a Freecycle (online) in your area, people give away all KINDS of stuff. Couches, exercise equipment, boxes of books, etc. Yard sale for practically everything. Use your AC/Heat sparingly (if you pay for it), if its hot close the blinds and strip down, if its cold throw some extra sweaters on, etc. Everything you do can be found or done 50% cheaper.

Utlities are included in the rent. I don't need anything else just yet, thank heaven. Just have to trade Top Ramen for my weekend fast food treat for a few weeks. I'll be spending way less on gas, at least.

Beans and rice are cheap and pretty tasty, especially with a bit of your favorite spices, garlic, seasoning salt, salsa or cheese on them. Eat them in a bowl, throw them in a tortilla, or bake them.

The real world is EXPENSIVE. I ate a lot of rice & beans in my first apartment.
