Our cat likes to play with drinking straws. Any unattended straw is fair game.... if you turn your back on your drink he swipes the straw out of it...........

Oh and if it can kill your cat, your cat will find a way to get to it and try to eat it.

I just caught Sully trying to eat a thumbtack.
Our cats will frequently chew grass and drink the rainwater.

I kept track of how many times our eldest cat decided to bring up his lunch one particular time I took them outside. FIVE times.

My parents usually put their birthday cards on top of the entertainment center. Stripes will get up there and very deliberately knock them all off one by one.

Once kitty finds his place, regardless of where it is, don't put anything there. Sully claimed the top of my dresser. I made the mistake of putting a curtain rod on the top of my dresser. He kindly moved it to the floor for me. While I was sleeping.

Nope, still not a cat person. But this cat is special. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
Yeah... that's my co-worker's story, too. She's got 5, now.

Maybe you should change the title of the thread to "I was not a cat person!"

Very cute kitty! I see you have a pic of yourself in here too. You're not at all what I pictured.
Well, I find that if I cut down on the baby eating, the trollish aspects of my appearance dwindle until I can pass for mostly human. So, I've cut back to no more than two/week, and the results are mostly passable

He's not feral. He isn't old enough to develop the habits of a feral cat. Hes just an asshole like all kittens are.
Kittens get feral habits from mom within a couple of weeks of birth. We've collected several feral litters from my workplace in the last year, and the last couple of kittens are so markedly different from the others, that we're certain someone dumped a pet when it got pregnant.

Whenever I pick him up, he clutches me like he's worried about being dropped, and doesn't even let go when he can feel that he's back on solid ground.
That's a normal kitten thing. They settle down once their eyes and ears get more developed.

along with a litter box (which I now suspect is useless for the time being)
You've probably already learned that kittens can be box trained by 4 weeks, so at 6 (as this guy seems) he should take to it without much trouble. Our latest were just shy of 4 weeks when we picked them up last week. By the end of the second day, they were seeking out the box to use on their own.

I've found that my cats like the cardboard scratch pads best... like this one: http://www.catclaws.com/products/cat...tching-pad.php
Sisal rope, for the win. Our middle guy actually partially dismantled the rope wound around the small cat perch. But we've got a cat tree with two sisal rope sections, so he's really happy with it.

He has fleas (so we're de-flea'ing the whole zoo this weekend, he gets dawn dish detergent, the dogs get actual anti-flea/tick stuff named 'Vectra').
Look in the gardening section for Sevin Dust. Best anti-insect stuff ever. And least toxic to things that aren't insects, too.
    Quoth Pedersen View Post
Oh, forget that. If there's a cat tree happening, I'm building it. They're not complex, and I need projects like that.
I got mine at Costco for $70. It's a good deal, has two high curved shelves and a low flat shelf for perching, plus the two sections of sisal rope. I'm not sure it's that much more expensive than the components, but I'm not crafty, so having it already built is worth the cost.

One of McGriff's unofficial names was Sorry (every day one of us would trip over him at least twice).
Ah, yes... nearly all cats are from the extended clan of Underfoot.

    ... dogs, too.

Say hello to Storm, who after only a week is already refusing to pose nice for the camera

And here I was gonna recommend a classic: Felix.

But yeah, on the topic of pets and their alternate names: We have a cat named Chester. Before he died, my stepdad spoiled that cat rotten. Think 5 year old girl style spoiling. Now that my stepdad has passed on, the cat has to do things for himself now, and is unable to do them properly (aka, like a cat could). He has tried and failed to jump from the floor to the top of a bed. As such, I have nicknamed him Poser Cat. He is not a real cat anymore, just something posing as one for food.
