  • So close now....

As I've mentioned previously, I'm currently on my learner's permit, working towards my provisional licence.
Both of these require a quick background as to what they can and can't do-for Aussies, YMMV as it differs according to state:

Learners: Must have a fully licenced driver in the car with them (has to have had his/her licence for 2 years), cannot drive under the influence of alcohol or illicit drugs, can go up to 100km/h on the road, cannot get points on their licence, must log all driving in their logbook, must display L plates (black L on yellow background). They are also required to pass either a VORT (Vehicle On Road Test) or work through the CBT (Competency Based Training). Both of them work through the same things, but one is done in one go, one is spread out over time (I'm doing the latter). You are also required to log 50 hours (in my case) or 75 hours (anyone who got their L's after September 4th) and hold it for a minimum of 6 months (me) or 12 months (anyone after September 4th)

Provisional: this is split into two categories, P1 and P2. Both have similar restrictions: you can drive on your own, but you are restricted to 100km/h max, no alcohol or illicit drugs, can't accumulate more than 4 demerit points on your licence. P1's must display P-plates (red P on white background) while P2's don't need to display plates.

I am about 2 weeks away from undertaking my final drive for the CBT and I am VERY nervous. I'm basically required to do a 25 minute drive in medium/heavy traffic. during this time, I have to demonstrate that I can do lane changes, I can comply with road signs, I can do a bunch of different corners, I observe in traffic, basically just a regular drive. All the slow speed maneuvers and so forth are done in another task, which will be done next week.

Any tips on how to relax before taking this particular exam? It probably doesn't help that I gotta pay to do this one. I got lucky, my driving instructor charges less for me and my sister as we both went through him and even though my sister was about 3-4 lessons ahead of me, I'm still getting charged the rate I was charged when she had her lessons. ($50 AUD p.h. final drive is $100)
