  • It was thirty years ago today...

Today, as most of us know, is the thirtieth anniversary of the death of John Lennon.

There is a John Lennon Wall in Prague, which began during the era of Communism. I went down there to pay my respects, and found three photographers taking pictures of a small shrine showing a very good painting of Lennon; the shrine had several candles burning, and a few other tributes.

Eventually, I went over to the candles to see if I could light one that had gone out. The photographers began snapping away, since I had provided a human element in the scene. One of them was wearing a Reuters coat. I gave another one my name and email address, so that he could send me a copy of a photo he'd taken. The one in the Reuters coat asked me where I was from - not only the country, but the state and city.

So I may be online somewhere, in front of the John Lennon Wall, even as we speak.

Thirty years. I cannot believe it. Thirty years.
