I got a new puppy a few weeks ago. Dobby is a Rat Terrier/Chi mix and is your typical baby, into everything. We already have dozens of toys for Dad's Shih Tzu, Annie, that Dobby plays with regularly. I bought him some Nylabones because he's teething and I'd rather him chew on those than, oh, say, our fingers. The first few days he mostly gnawed away, they really work, hurray! And then I couldn't find them. I finally located them today, only to have him look at me in dismay and shock. He picked them up and hid each of them in a different spot. He doesn't do this with ANYTHING else, just the Nylabones. It's hysterical. One is behind the subwoofer speaker by the entertainment center, and the other is between two pieces of furniture, with a piece of paper shoved on top of it for good measure.

I have two cats:
Phydeaux is 17 now. He's arthritic, has glaucoma, and is hard of hearing (we think). He'll come into the bathroom while we're in the shower and drink the water running off the shower curtain. Because of his age, we're really lenient with him, but he still knows better to jump up on the table while we're eating. So instead, he puts his front paws up on hubby's leg and taps hubby's belly or arm with his paw until he gets table scraps. Phydeaux will eat anything salty, buttery, or meaty. I've even had him eat onions if they've got butter or oil on them. His favorite, though, is popcorn. Even with his arthritis, he'll chase popcorn across the room if I throw it for him.
Gandalf is a bit younger. We got him as a companion for Phydeaux when he started getting fat and lazy. Gandalf will jump up on my shoulders when I'm sitting leaning forward across a desk or table. He's declawed now, but I got raked many times before. And now he's starting to lose his dexterity and sometimes misses and falls back on the floor. Gandalf's favorite toy is pompoms - not the bigger ones you get from the pet aisle, but the little half-inch-diameter ones I got from the craft store. He looks so funny with this little tuft of orange or pink sticking out of his mouth.

We had a Korat mix who used to try and nurse off your earlobe. Very cute, and oh so painful after a little bit. I've got a patch of skin that will always be shiny and scarred from him...persistent lil cuss that he was. We know for a fact he wasn't separated til the right age since we got him from hubby's parents and we knew his DOB!
We have one...pretty cute. Same cat has also on occasion woken himself up due to noisily passing gas.Quoth Micer View PostHe's also the only cat I've ever met that snores
Our Ragdoll mix does this. Failing that, she'll accept a lap, then try to get herself with her head up next to yours like a human baby.Quoth Kanalah View PostWhen she wants to snuggle, she doesn't sit next to you or on your lap, she sits across your back. I can't count the number of times I've found my husband laying on the couch watching tv with a cat stretched out across his belly and shoulder.
Presenting for your approval...a dog story! Or several :PQuoth telecom_goddess View PostWhy am I not surprised there are more stories about cats than dogs
Cats are WEIRD!
We had a husky mix when I was growing up. Very sweet dog, made it to 17. Chewed til she was 12 at least! Chewed the side off the house, chewed down the satellite dish (one of the old huge ones), chewed the ac unit's base off...
Fortunately by the time we got a pool she had calmed down some and merely left fangprints on a few diving sticks.
We've given ours all sorts of fabulous toys and at least 3/4 end up there. Never simple things like the soft rubber/plastic shaped like the number 8 or the crinkly balls that would be utterly unaffected, either....always the catnip mice with fur, or the stuffed catnip pillows, or the mechanical pulltoys. Mostly we think it's the Ragdoll as she's somewhat fixated on the water bowl, but she's also a tiny cat and we reckon something like the pull mouse might've taken a fair bit of strength to heave into the bowl.Quoth Kittish View PostMiss Alex was very diligent about putting them away when she wasn't playing with them. All well and good, except her idea of putting her toys away was to pile them up in the water dish. And her favorite, bestestest toys were the drawstrings from sweat pants and hoodies.

My boyfriends two dogs act as a doorbell. Because we all come in via the back door at my boyfriend's house, every time we enter, the dogs go off. Good way to know if a mate has rocked up tho

I've noticed something odd about my new kitten, Taz.
She won't eat when I first fill the food bowl. She'll run into the next room, and once I've sat down to do something else, then she eats.
But she will drink when I refill her water dish.
Very odd

Our cat, Elsie sprints into a room where we aren't and meows in odd tones. It took us a couple of weeks, but we realized that she was singing.

A couple more: We had a kitty named Minnie, because she was so tiny. She was mostl white with a few dark bits on her head, ears and back. One year we were watching skiing in the winter Olympics, and every time a skier went across the screen Minnie ran up and tried to catch him. It so cute...little paws bopping the screen.
We had another Siamese-looking cat (her mom was black & we don't know what the dad looked like). Her name was Dusty. She was my mother's cat...they were very close. At night when my mom went to bed, Dusty would sit on top of her and "knead" with her paws, and "talk." She made this sound like "Rah!" and if you said it back to her, she'd do it again, occasionally altering it to "rah-rah". You could go back & forth with that for quite a while, "rah" - "rah" - "rah-rah", etc.

I had one that loved the Quidditch scenes in the Harry Potter flicks. Kitty loved those scenes for some reason--he'd watch them, and then fall asleep. Guess those fast-moving players tired him outQuoth telecom_goddess View PostA cat that loved Power Rangers? now I've heard everything

The category of "watches T.V." yes, but a favorite show (not birds/nature)? A specific show? That's awesome. Right up there with things on cats' heads/paws/etc.

That reminds me of something about Miss Alex that used to drive me nuts sometimes. See, she (and all the cats I've ever had for that matter) had lots of toys. Miss Alex was very diligent about putting them away when she wasn't playing with them. All well and good, except her idea of putting her toys away was to pile them up in the water dish. And her favorite, bestestest toys were the drawstrings from sweat pants and hoodies.I also had a cat named Buttercup (Butters) who would take my scrunchies and put them in her water dish.

Evil Empryss used to have a cat named Snowball. He was a rather decrepit thing when I met him (he was about 18 at the time). EE had had him since he was a kitten about 8 weeks old. He was, of course, snow white.
When I first met him, the Evil Overlord had shaved him down due to the summer heat (not something I'd ever do to a cat, but he thought he was helping Snowball with the heat), and styled the fur around the head and tail so he looked like a lion. Was kinda cute actually.
Snowball was a cranky old fart. He didn't like most people . . . but he liked me. Of course, he loved EE . . . she was HIS human.
When she went to training in Texas for two weeks (she was in the Air Force at the time), he crapped in her shoes so she would know of his displeasure.
When EE and the EO got married, they went on a cruise for two weeks for their honeymoon. I was asked to look after Snowball. I went over to the house once a day to feed him, water him, and clean the litter box. I'd also stay about an hour and play with him. When it was time to leave, I'd go to the stereo and put on the soundtrack from the Power Rangers movie. He dash right over to the stereo and watch the lights while I snuck out of the house.
Snowball LOVED the Power Rangers. Whenever the EO would watch the Power Rangers (he's a big Power Rangers fan), Snowball would dash into the living room from where ever he'd been in the house to watch it with the EO.
When EE got transferred, I was over at the house helping them pack. It was summer and very hot, and they didn't have central air. The windows were open, and Snowball was sunning himself in the window sill. Suddenly I heard a "thump!", and looked back to see the sill was empty. A few moments later I heard a scratching at the front door and a mewling. It was Snowball (he was strictly an indoor kitty), wanting to come in. I opened the door, and he had this disgrunted, "you didn't see that, and I meant to do it anyway" kind of expression on his face.
He finally passed away at age 22 after falling down some stairs and breaking his hip. I can still remember EE sobbing when she called to tell me.
He was a great cat.

Sounds like my now-deceased deaf cat, Snow. She didn't like the alarm clock either, even though she couldn't hear it. Instead, she'd feel the vibration on the table, and it annoyed her. But, she figured out that when it went off, she'd be getting "kitteh food" soon afterQuoth Kanalah View PostOur cat Stella is deaf. Every morning when my alarm goes off, she's at the door doing this loud caterwaul. She continues until I feed her. Which I guess is normal for a cat.
Another odd habit, is that she would actually close the living room heating vents. I'd come home from work, find the kitty on her blanket...and she had closed both of the vents near her
Also amusing, is that Snow hated water, yet she just *had* to roll around in the bathtub after I'd taken a shower. Finally, she would sometimes sleep in the kitchen sink. It wasn't uncommon to come home, and find her in there...especially if there were dirty dishes to cuddle with

Oh, the cats...the cats who were...The Tribe (they were all related).
Onyx was a tiny little black cat even when full grown. We have this big china platter we use for the turkey on Thanksgiving. We'd take it out early and set it on the dining room table. Onyx would jump up into the platter and spend ages pawing at it like he was trying to dig a hole.
Eric the Orange was what we called a "social" eater. When he got his food he'd meow loudly until one of us came & stood or sat there while he ate. Had to have company.
Frosty looked like a Siamese but her mom was calico & her dad was black (or black/white...mom & dad were sister/brother & we were never sure which brother was the dad); she used to run real fast at a closed door, turn around at the last second and smack the door hard with her back feet. And when you picked her up, she always had to stick out her back legs as far as she could.
Teddi Bear was a tortoiseshell. She liked to run up the wall in the arched doorway between two rooms...she was small so she used to make it almost to where the arch began to curve.
Sylvester, my precious buddy...black/white...."trained" me to feed him crunchies one at a time! The other cats used to give him some pretty strange looks when we did that.
Bunny was a combo grey/brown tabby & white; she loved milk & when we made coffee, she'd come & sit by the coffeemaker because she knew we would be getting out the half-&-half.
Leo was a big black cat who liked to do what we called "the flip": If you picked him up, he would flip himself over onto his back and stretch out his legs, front & back, and just lay there across your arms, stretching.
Rocky, Leo's brother, black/white: when he was young he loved to play with plastic drinking straws. He'd hold one in his mouth and run back & forth from the kitchen all the way to the living room. I peeked under the edge of the carpet once and found 6 or 7 straws underneath!
There were more, but I'll stop now. My babies, I miss them!
