I've had my heart set on a digital camera but Best Buy seems to have not much in stock on it. While frustrating, I understand this can happen.
Last night the website said that the Boca Raton (FL) store had them in stock so I called. I was on hold for 30 minutes with 1 other customer ahead of me (for checking availability). I figured something might be wrong so I hung up and called again. 20 minutes - 1 person ahead of me still. I hung up and tried later on, this time I left my phone on for an hour and a half - that entire time I was on hold with one person ahead of me. I find this extremely odd. I didn't bother to venture out to that store to see if they had it.
This afternoon work had me heading up to West Palm Beach so when I was done I decided to take the chance and try the store there, it's a large store and not far from where I was. They didn't have it in stock (I understood this was a possibility when I went there) but they said they'd check the stock in nearby stores. They said Boynton Beach had one (very close to my way back) and Sawgrass had two (about 45 minutes out of my way (each way).
I headed to the Boynton store and the person there confirmed that they did have one in stock but they had to hold it for someone.
Odd how in the past when I've asked if something could be held for me they've always said no. But, they did confirm that the Sawgrass had two in stock. I asked them if they could call to hold one for me but they said they couldn't.

I headed to the Sawgrass store and spoke to the person in the camera section. I told them that the Boynton and West Palm stores both said they had two and they said that they were having "inventory issues" and didn't have any. The person in the camera section just looked at the display and said "if we don't have it on display then we don't have it". He did look in one of the cabinets and there wasn't any in there. Nice, an hour and 30 minutes driving wasted. On my way out I checked with customer service and they said that the computer showed two in stock. When I mentioned that the person in cameras said they didn't have any the response was "I guess we're having inventory issues now".
Yes, I do have the "ship to store" option but seriously, if their systems and procedures are like this can I really trust that they will let me know when it comes in and will it really be there when I pick it up? It's getting close to worth spending the extra $50 to get it off of Amazon.com!
