Gah, centipedes everywhere

On that note, SOMETHING was crawling on my face last night. I have no idea what, and part of me doesn't actually want to see it.

If your face didn't break out in a horrible rash it was probably NOT a centipede. The ones around here almost have acid in their feet! And the motel manager a few years ago thought I was being a silly girl when I complained about finding one in my bed.

Centipedes are a little more scary since they're bigger, faster, and I think they CAN climb on walls.

Yes, they can I had a few in my apartment on campus (in addition to black widows and cave crickets)...maintenance was useless as far as getting rid of them, so one of my science teachers came over, trapped what he could and gave me tips on how to deal with the rest.

I've heard peppermint oil repels bugs. Wouldn't hurt to try it.. cotton balls with peppermint oil in them..

I have jumping spiders here right now. They are so small, you could mistake them for gnats until you get close to see their tiny legs. They jump. Fast.

Oh gods, the "ladybugs" or "barn bugs" or whatever the hell they are. The spotty beetles in all shades of orange and red that get in your house. I came home one day ti find the kitchen ceiling covered in them - at least a hundred up there. I just took the vacuum cleaner hose to them and then emptied the dust box outside.

I've seen all kinds of weird bugs where I live. Monster yellowjackets (which my mother's dog likes to try and eat), little spotted spiders that climb to eye level and jump at you and kind of parachute to the ground/floor on a strand of web, huge brown spiders that are incredibly fast. And I've seen things outside that I can't even begin to try and identify.

And when winter comes, there will be mice in here. One year, I swear this one mouse was in the kitchen and must have worked all winter long to fill every single drawer and cupboard with dogfood kibbles. Hell, my cats brought me three mice a couple weeks ago and left them on my bed because I guess they love me.

I haven't seen one of them in a long time. Now, spiders, beetles, every other annoying pest.......I HAVE seen.

As much as I hate cooler weather and don't want summer to end, I'm kind of hoping for another cooler fall because that means the annual invasion of the Asian beetles (generic looking lady bugs, they are orange and they bite!) is much less bountiful when it's cooler out.

God, I HATE that time of year. Those bastards multiply like no other, they smell awful, take up entire sides of your house, and bite!

Yes, yes they can. Ceilings, too.

I killed one the other night (used my roommate's flipflop...). I actually have only seen a couple this summer (at the risk of jinxing myself there).

And on that note, I shudder off to bed.

These little bastards I'm minding less since I know one won't land in my hair and they're pretty harmless and are too weak to climb the furniture and such. Centipedes are a little more scary since they're bigger, faster, and I think they CAN climb on walls.

It's just in the years I've been in this house, I have never ever seen so many show up at one time. By the time I went to sleep last night, I easily had 40-50 millipedes in my jar. And that was just from one night.

I find the occasional centipede in my apartment. Now I'm scared...

centipedes eat spiders*, roaches, silverfish, crickets, and any other bug smaller than them. Hence why I really don't mind them.


*the many long legs allow them to walk right into the web for a snack.

I'm a little bored, so I decided to start catching all the millipedes I find in a jar. (This might make some people feel grossed out) Currently I've got about 20 and they're amusing to watch. None of them can walk in a straight line - they're all rolling all over one another. They can't climb up the jar sides whatsoever, and they're getting tangled in the bodies of the dead ones I threw in there.

They sound like a bunch of little tapdancers in there. Their inability to climb the jar reassures me that they will not be on the ceiling over my head too. Plus my cat seems entertained by them.

But holy christwagons, do they reek! I couldn't smell anything when I would just find a couple, but with shitloads of them in one place, the collective smell is very noticeable.
