*kind of inspired by a "party" we're having for Father's Day tomorrow.......and to keep things simple, this applies towards family living here in Phoenix*
For various reasons, I've never been all that fond of having to attend family getherings, but these would be the two main ones:
- I'm quite a bit older than my cousins, and because of the age gap/different life experiences, I don't have all that much common with them. (my two siblings mixed in a little better because they were closer in age)
- it was a long time before I was really "old" enough to fit in with the adults, and even so, it's sometimes difficult to get them to talk to me about anything other than my library job. (i think some of this stems from there being a LOT of awkwardness about my not being married to Heather's father)
This is not to say that I don't like my relatives, but I really feel like I get "pushed" into attending get-togethers, and this has gotten to be more of an issue since I had to move back into my mom's house. And I've not been able to figure out a diplomatic way to explain why I don't always want to go.
