After reading this you'll know why I put that for the title.
A couple days ago I was at work, running between two registers. I had a customer wanting to buy a pair of sunglasses, so I ran to the other register to get a case for it. There a customer asked me, "Do you work here?" This was after I had just gone around and dug through the storage area of the desk around the register.
"Uh, yes?" I said.
"I wanted to know the price of these," she said.
"Okay, just come this way," I said, pointing to the other cash register.
"Where?"
"There--just follow me."
I quickly walked back to the other register and was scanning the sunglasses when the woman came out of nowhere and just stood right next to me!
"You have to go around and stand in line," I said to her. She didn't hear me, and instead asked the customer I was ringing up, "Can you tell me the price of these?"
If only she had paid attention to her surroundings, she would have seen that:
1. the customer was dressed very casually
2. there was a short line of people behind her and even a person next to her
3. the customer was carrying her handbag
4. I had the scanner in my hand
5. the register monitor and keyboard were on my side, facing me
It's a couple days later and I still can't figure out how that happened.
