This lady pretzeled my brain.
Not word-for-word but the gist of it was like this:
Customer: How much does an In Memoriam* cost?
Me: $X.XX per line
Customer: And what about an obituary?
Me: An obituary is a news story about someone who recently died. There is never a charge for a news story, but Editorial can't guarantee they will run it...depends on space available and some other factors.
Customer: It might not run?
Me: That's correct. Now, with a paid notice, it will run, and it's the same charge as the In Memoriam.
Customer: So the memoriam is free but it might not run.
Me: [gives explanation again]
Customer: So the obituary costs $X.XX per line but it might not run.
Me: [explains obits again]
Customer: So the notice is free, but the memoriam is not.
Me: *sigh* [repeats explanation again]
Customer: So there's a charge for the obit, but not the notice.
Me: [pulls out hair and runs screaming down the hall....not really, but I felt like it]
*This is one of those "in memory of" things that people run on the deceased person's birthday, or the anniversary of their death, etc.
