So, at 3am, as is my custom now that management has learned to leave me a vacuum, I was cleaning behind the desk. A guest came up to the desk while I was doing that, so I stopped and helped them and at the end we had this conversation.
Guest: I'm surprised a place this large doesn't have a dedicated cleaning crew.
Me: We do have a dedicated cleaning crew.
Guest: Then why don't they clean the desk area?
Me: Well, us hotel employees are an independent lot who enjoy doing our own work.
Guest: In other words, your manager didn't want to share her budget with the cleaning crew so they refuse to do it.
Me: Yeah, basically that's it.
Guest: Well, I'll be sure to let them know how independent and hard working you are.
