  • I have more patience than I thought...

This happened a while ago. I can't remember if I told you guys or not, so if so, forgive me

Anyways... this nice woman comes up... she's Eastern European (I'm guessing a Slavic country of somesort by the accent, but I'm bad at those things). She wants to pay her Sears card bill (I think. Been a while). Anyways, she says she has a problem, then pulls out TWO sears cards!

I'm utterly confused at first, as english is not her best language and I only know Obscene Russian. I wont give you the play-by-play, as my memory is fuzzy, but basically, somehow she was given a second Sears card... the name's spelling is slightly different, she wants to fix it.

So I call up Card Services, and explain it to the tech.

Meanwhile, she's also repeating herself a lot... I manage to be polite to her while still talking to the tech (whom I explain she does not know good english and its best to go through me). I have her write down the proper spelling of her name, and keep the cards sorted.

So anyways, the entire thing takes about fifteen minutes, as I also have to try and explain to her what we're going to do (transfer the owed balance of the second card onto the first, and destroy the second card), and make sure she understands... which she does... eventually.

Throughout this entire time she's still mentioning the different spelling of her name, and I'm finally saying 'Yes, I know, we're fixing it!" to her repeatedly. The tech sounds a little amused, as he can hear her in the background going on. She even writes down the right spelling of her name (Even though its on her old card).

So finally, its all good. I tell her that we need to cut the card up, and she of course, is a bit paranoid about this (card theft concerns), so I cut the card up in front of her... she has me cut it into 1/2 inch pieces, and then cut lengthwise through each set of numbers left on it. (she went THROUGH the peices and pulled out the ones I had to cut again).

In a show of good faith, I mixed the peices up, and then split it into three piles and put each pile into a different garbage.

All in all, she went away satisfied. I had warm fuzzy feelings, and gave a huge sigh. This entire time, the other girls were aware of what I was doing (Luckily, it wasn't busy) and were quite impressed at my patience.

I did enjoy helping her. I like solving problems, and older ladies like her who aren't EBs are fun to deal with. I still dont know how she ended up with two cards, although. I admit, to feeling a little bit expaserated, but I think its also cause she kept repeating herself, her only real fault. Hopefully she wont' run into more problems.

    Anyways, happy ending.
