  • One reason why you cannot park in a reserved spot when Visitor Parking is reserved

"Kara" (not the person's real name) from Student Activities came to the booth yesterday to pick up the tokens for the dance marathon from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. "Kim" included the tokens in the envelope of tokens I get when I pick up the event list & keys to the booth every morning, & she called me to tell me "Kara" will be picking them up since people may arrive for the event after the second shift person leaves at 6 p.m. The hours of the booth are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

When she got to the booth she asked me several questions.

    When do you leave?
    me: I leave at 3 p.m.
Is there someone else here after 3 p.m.?
me: my co-worker who works from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. *I showed her the sign in the window I open to speak to the guests which states the hours the booth is staffed.*
    What happens after 6 p.m.?
me: One of the closing procedures is to leave the 2 gates next to the booth up.
Will campus police let people not here for our event into the garage when there are only enough spots for our guests? *According to the event list, she reserved 25 spots*
me: They should not do that. The full sign is on, & so no one can get into the garage unless we use the remote to raise the gate. I will let my co-worker know to reserve 25 spots, & I will leave the full sign on. You could let campus police know to make sure your guests can park in the garage for your event.

I notified my co-worker of the number of spots to reserve & what "Kara" asked me. The parking office called & asked me if I wanted the full sign on before my shift ended. I said yes.

I imagine "Kara" is not the only university employee who does not want campus police raising the gate for customer(s) not attending their event when the garage is reserved.

So to the customers wanting to park when the garage is reserved:
I keep my word when I let a staff member know that I will keep the full sign on & not let anyone not here for their event into the garage. I'm sorry, but you have to find alternative parking.
