We were broken into on monday...

What your place needs is some sharks with frickin' laser beams!

sorry all we have are some ill-tempered sea bass.......

I think a recording of the sound of a pump action shotgun being pumped would do it.

Maybe a motion sensor with growling dogs? Really big, angry-sounding dogs.

I'd wonder if it was an inside job, except you said the change jar was still there. We had the same thing happen at a dry cleaner where I used to work. Thief took a cement block (part of a curb, I think?) and smashed it through the front door. It was a new store in a brand-spankin' new strip mall, so we just hid the money bag (with maybe $40) in the closet amongst cleaning supplies and drywall (I did say it was a really new store-as in bits still under construction ) Seems the thief knew exactly where to look for the money and the owner told me they had a suspect and knew it was an inside job. I only found out about the events when I arrived Monday morning and black soot coated the counters, there was no till and the floor was strangely swept. Strange, because I was the only employee who ever swept and I didn't work over the weekend.

I called the main store, alarmed, because things just didn't look right and I couldn't find the till. That's when I found out what happened the night before. The police had already dusted for prints (the black soot), a repair company had already replaced the door and the owner swept up the glass (thus the pretty floors). That same morning someone came with a bright shiny safe and bolted it to the floor. No more hiding money in the drywall for us.

Luckily, the boss always closes holidays, but someone smashed our front glass door, went around the corner (and evaded our motion sensor security system), grabbed the change otu of the drawer, rifled about, then went around the counter and exited.

The sucky part? The alarm NEVER WENT OFF. Needless to say, the boss is not happy as this happened around 9:30 monday night, meaning our place was wide open until he got there at 7 am (two customers were already waiting, but had called the cops and were concerned).

At first, it looked like he got the dimes/nickels/pennies (Everything else is put into a bag and hidden) and our Assistant Dog Donation Tin, then we found the tin under another counter where the boss had put it a few days ago, so he got about 7 bucks. We have surveillance, but it was too dark to make out any featurse on the guy.

The door cost 300 to replace. THe security company is paying for it apparently. The boss got a deal out of them since their system never went off. Sure, it took the guy less than 20 seconds for the smash-and-grab, but our doors were open ALL NIGHT.

We now are getting an upgraded security system that will solve some of the above problems (Just in case, I will not list them here). Sadly, neither he nor the security computer guy agree to my suggestion for the installation of Motion Activated Lasers, though the boss did chuckle when I suggested a recording of a robotic voice that says "WARNING, WARNING, AUTOMATIC DEFENSE SYSTEM ACTIVATED. ARMING GUNS AND RELEASING THE RABID DOGS NOW'.

Needles to say, boss is a little stressed out, poor guy.
