I started a new clinical rotation today. From polling my classmates that had had already been there, I learned something very important: T is teh awesome, and C is evil incarnate and will refer to you as "student" for the duration of your stay. Needless to say, I was very apprehensive about starting at this place because I am really getting sick of being looked down upon for still being in school. I'm also a lot more confident about what I'm doing than I was the last time I had to deal with an evil supervisor, and by extension, a lot more mouthy.
Since T was the early person, she left around 3pm leaving me alone with C to finish up the last scan. So far, she hadn't been that mean, just not shy about correcting my little first day flubs. I'm actually ok with that, because if no one tells me when I don't do it right, I don't learn.
So, there we were in the break room between pictures and C mentions to me how impressed she had been at my ability to pick up using the cameras so fast (one I had seen before in another hospital and the other is very similar). She went on and on about how before the end of my first day I was injecting, pretty much turned loose on setting up both cameras, and not afraid to ask questions. She even went on about me when she introduced me to the Imaging Services manager. Que Jedi's ego starting to swell.
Ok, not until I got in my car. Generally, I get a bit embarassed when I get complemented like that because I feel I'm just doing my best and it's not perfect.
I'm cautiously optimistic that C might not be so bad after all. I'm also cautiously optimistic about possibly landing a job there as they've got two pregnant techs going on maternity leave this summer.
