  • Bended the rules into an origami swan

So since I do work for a utility we have regulations we must follow one of these is that if we are going to turn someone off for nonpayment of a bill it must be done before the next billing cycle's late notice goes out. Period if we don't get them turned off before then we forfeit the right too.

So recently we changed when we read the meters as I have mentioned in other threads. Well I have been using this to my advantage in helping some of my customer's out.

In this particular case the person's normal past due shut off cycle ends next Monday then we have two days to turn them off before the next late notice goes out. This person owes enough money it is likely they would lose service and then cost them a lot more money to get it back, due to deposits.

This is where I spanked the system. Her meter will as of the next bill following the one we are going to turn her off for be read in the later half of the month rather than than the first half. This means her late notice after the one we are going to shut her off for doesn't even go out until the middle of next month.

This is where I CYAd and put copious notes documenting my case for giving her an extra two weeks to pay her bill, which was exactly what she needed and made me her freaking hero. I pointed out that per the rules under which we operate we had up until the middle of the next month to shut her off that we could easily extend her the two weeks.

The person who schedules the shutoffs didn't quite agree and sent this to my supervisors to review with me. I pointed it out they read my notes and they backed me fully the woman gets her two weeks. I spanked the system and spanked it hard!!!!!
