  • Not sucky, quite the opposite...

I wanted to actually praise Best Buy customer service for my recent experience. About 8 months ago, I bought some business software for about $125. I never opened it, because my business venture never panned out as I wanted. I figured that I might use it in the future, but I just never got around to it and I likely won't for another 5 years (due to having a baby last year). By that time, I doubt the OS will support the software and it would be greatly out of date anyway.

So, I wanted to return it or exchange it. Problem is, I could not find the receipt for the life of me. I went to Best Buy anyway, and they couldn't locate the purchase itself in their system using my phone number. I believe the phone number i used was an old cell phone number that I changed and I could not remember. So the person at the desk gave me an 800 number to call to see if they could retrieve the receipt in their computers. Not only that, is they don't sell this software any longer anyhow.

So I called, and alas, they could not retrieve anything, because I could not remember what the phone number was that i used. I was pleasant and I didn't have any reason to get upset if there was nothing they could do, as I was at their mercy at this point. However, because of the original cost of the software at the time of purchase, the rep I spoke to on the phone offered me a $50 Best Buy gift card to at least help out. I didn't ask for anything like that, and I told her I was happy with just that as I likely wouldn't get more than $20 off ebay anyway (i had been watching a few auctions and none of them went higher than $25).

The rep didn't have to do that and I felt I had a really good experience with their service.
