If you'd read the whole thing, I don't imagine you'd have forgotten the four years of cashier to customer abuse she puts out to people on a daily basis.
If you had read *my* post carefully, you would see that I was aware that it had gone on for four years, hence my use of the word "history":

There is a history of this cashier being rude to you. I get that.
My point was that any customer at any time can take offense to anything that any one of us might do, and therefore, retaliate in the same manner, and it doesn't even have to be after 4 years of abuse. A sucky act is a sucky act, regardless of the reasons, and I was only pointing out to others, who were cheering and high-fiving, that it wouldn't be nearly so funny and heroic to them if the tables were turned and they ended up on the receiving end.

I am not saying you didn't have a right to be ticked off at this person. My concern was all the praise for what you did when you clearly knew it was a sucky act of revenge on your part, or you would not have put it in your title, "I did something sucky, and am not ashamed."

I don't think that cashier learned anything from the experience. I don't think any lightbulbs went off and I doubt there was a huge revelation on her part that her own actions over all those years had built to this moment of suckiness that she had to deal with. People like that never see themselves in the wrong.
In fact, I'm pretty sure that all you did was piss her off and pretty much guaranteed more of the same rude mistreatment when you shop there.

    Besides...

The self one is always eating my money >_<
It's supposed to. Just as long as it gives you your receipt when you're done...

I usually do debit/credit at self check. No money eating here!

. The couple said, "Well we don't believe in the institutionalization of banks. It's just a way to keep the man down.."

    "
wait, so an institution that gives away free money is keeping the man down (that is what interest on your savings is, practically free money)...

oh yeah, back on topic, yeah, I'd say the cashier got exactly what she deserved... why because the OP did exactly what the cashier asked and just dumped it all out...

I think that the OP wasn't trying to be sucky. She had legal tender and was trying to count it out. The cashier insisted she dump the money on the counter and the cashier kept knocking it over. I viewed it as a Karma thing.

    Sucky is this:

A couple years ago I was at a club and the couple next to me had been there when I got in. They sat for hours and ran up a heafty sized tab (Around $200 if I recall). When it came time for them to leave, they handed the bar keep a garbage bag full of nickles and pennies. They said, "We have enough, count it."

The bar keep was furious and told one of the SC's to go to the bank down the street and cash it out. The couple said, "Well we don't believe in the institutionalization of banks. It's just a way to keep the man down.."

Eventually both the barkeep AND the customers counted (which tied up the bar keep for a while) and they paid their tab and left him a $0.03 tip- the overage of the money left in the bag.

The rest of the night he would walk by, shake his head and say, "Who the fuck pays with a garbage bag of nickles?"

Frankly I don't think anyone on here *was* being negative. You posted your story with the expectation that people would pat you on the back and tell you you were awesome, which they did.

You have every right to be upset with the cashier. That being the case, why not use the self check?
No, that's not why I posted it. I was just sharing the story. Big difference. I'm not ruffling feathers, it just didn't seem like they read half of the thing I typed.

    Besides...

If you didn't want to run the risk of having anyone disagree with you, you probably would have been better not posting the story on here at all.

    Small and Petty?

If you'd read the whole thing, I don't imagine you'd have forgotten the four years of cashier to customer abuse she puts out to people on a daily basis.

I mentioned clearly I had complained to management about it, and they have done nothing about her attitude. I have tried to be kind and ask her if she is okay a few times, she snips back at me with attitude.

    Four years.

I grew tired of her crap, after being kind to her for all that time, and gave a bit of her own rudeness back to her.

Why did I pay with quarters? I wanted to. Legally, she would have had to take my pennies, but I'm not heartless.

Did I hold up other people? No. I was the only one in the store at 3am. I checked. I mentioned this particular store is slow enough to only have two cashiers at a time (plus that self-check out). I'm not cruel to people who don't deserve it.

Please fully read the OP before beig negative.

I am going to have to go with the unpopular view here.

For all of you guys patting her on the back and saying "you rock, way to go" I have to ask how you would feel if a customer ever did that to you.

Oh, I am sure that will never happen, because goodness knows, we are all just the epitome of customer service and there is never a point where we just don't "connect" with a customer or have an off day.

Every single customer who crosses our path walks away smiling and gushing about the wonderful service they received.

We all know how easy it is to set a sucky customer off, so what if any one of us had a customer come through our cash and walk away with an attitude, only to come back later and do exactly what the OP did?

Would we be patting the customer on the back and telling him how awesome his revenge was on that clerk who annoyed him?

Perspective is an interesting thing, isn't it?

Gee, I'm going to have to start looking for the 'Not Friendly" button at the register at Pig Fart. They staff the most ridiculous buncha folks at ours.

    Awesome pwnage!

Actually, Apathy, I've never heard of write-ups occurring because of the PinPad surveys. I believe it counts more as store review than employee review as alternate questions include "did your cashier greet you today?" and "was your store clean today?"
I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to hear of a cashier being written up because customers kept hitting the "not friendly" button.

It could be for a legit reason, like the cashier was genuinely not friendly, but some people just have sticks lodged up their backsides for no good reason.

I was hoping there'd be some negative feedback, and regardless of whether it was warranted or not, that was most definitely sucky. Funny as well, but yeah, sucky. I’m glad it was only quarter’s though. Pennies, dimes, and nickels would be so much worse.

Just because someone slights you, repeatedly, for years, doesn’t make petty revenge like that right. Telling her manager, yes, complaining to superiors, yes, refusing to go through her line, okay as well.

Don’t sink to the level of sucky people, we’ve seen how hard it is for them to make it to ours.

And as for that divorced co-worker, she asked for pocket change didn't she. :P

I don't know. The whole thing seems rather childish and pointless to me.

I don't know what this cashier has done to you in the past, but I don't see how paying her in quarters changes anything. She's not going to be any friendlier towards you now.

Did it really make you feel better? If I had done something like that, I would have felt small and petty.

*sigh* I work in one of those places with the handy little 3 questions. The cashier's behavior is unexscusable and the fact the store keeps her on tells a great deal about the quality of that particular WM.

But why did you pay in quarters? Is that all you had or was it an intentional slight? Frankly, I think paying in quarters as revenge is quite petty. Because they only have 2 cashiers working, either people had to wait the entire time while you completed your lengthy transaction, or they had to go through the other yucky cashier's line. I call foul on the cashier. I call foul on the store for only using two cashiers and allowing the cashier to treat customers that way. And I don't like the idea that coinage interrupts other poor customer's shopping/checkout experience. Still, I gotta know, WHERE did the cashier put all of the quarters?? ~waits in anticipation of answer~

I've always wondered, can businesses refuse certain transactions when they are an inconvenience or just icky? I know my store won't. I once asked if I can refuse WET MONEY (ewww) and I can't. Yuck.

And honestly, I personally believe that anyone who works a register, be they trained cashier or management or salesfloor, should try to be at least somewhat friendly and certainly polite. That position requires, arguably, the most interaction with the customer, and you should at least make an effort to not come across as a consummate grouch.
I tend to agree here - when I used to work in BK, I did about a 6 month stint on tills. I couldn't stand it, was probably the worst job in the place for someone like the person I was then (and wouldn't be much better for the person I am now )

But I still did my best to be polite and friendly to every customer, right up until they start to act like an ass towards me. It's amazing how many times I had someone come to my register with a face like thunder and immediately brighten up the moment I smiled and asked if I could help. Made the days a lot more bearable, say true.
