That reminds me of one year- Mom and Dad were renting a lovely, old, marble-lined box. Upstairs was too hot to stand- the fans, they did nothing!- while downstairs had flooded recently and had no electricity. Yeah, between dark and mold... 'course, it kept that cask of Amontillado nice and chill... but I couldn't stand it. Oh, and the fridge was broken- everything we put in there spoiled.

No window A.C. units to be had anywhere, for love or money, because guess what? This was in Italy. Dad was stationed at Caserne Ederle, in the Venetto region. 100's (Farenheit) every day, easily. Our landlord should've been shot.

So ... next time you are whining because a SC "waited until there was a heatwave to get an AC unit", maybe they are replacing one for health reasons.

Last year, I had to replace my A/C unit for that very reason. If it's too hot or stuffy inside...I get a migraine. After several days of 90-95F and high humidity...my 22-year-old A/C unit called it quits. I'd not only fried the motor, but several other important internal bits. I had no choice but to replace it. This year, I've only had the A/C on maybe twice?

Not so at my mother's. They spent a fortune on redoing their system...and never use it. With no A/C, their house is like an oven

I have health issues, among other things I can't adjust my internal temperature easily, so if I get overheated I get heatstroke or I go stand in an ice cold shower until I get my core temperature back to something normal. I have an AC in the bedroom window, and I keep my room at 70 24/7. I have a spare AC unit that we bought on sale just in case this one goes toes up. I have a spare because a couple years ago mine died and I ended up going to a motel until mrDrone could get a replacement. I hate having shitty health, but I am stuck with it.

I'm originally from Phoenix AZ and I was nearly fried in this recent heat wave! Maybe I've been spoiled by the mostly nice weather we've had here, but 106 F and humid is no fun.

You have to remember, it's not so much the temperature...it's the fact that we're not set up for those temperatures. Very few places around here have AC and as soon as that kind of heat hits, those places selling fans and AC are out of stock in minutes.

So it's not that its hot its that you have no way to escape the heat. My apt was always about five to ten degrees hotter than outside because I'm on the third floor. I've lived in WA my whole life and I can count the amount of summers I've had here where I've actually felt uncomfortably hot on one hand...leaving out my pinky and my thumb. It's not usual for us and we are SO not used to it

I love it how the asshat assumed that anyone carrying any appliances had something to do with owning the building. I suspect he tried to demand the store owner show him an apartment because "you're just a few blocks away".

For the final push moving back into my mom's, I didn't have a car (she's out of town until later today). So I had to make 2-3 trips on foot to my place and back with an LCD TV and boxes...not too bad considering my building was only 2-3 blocks away, but the last 2 boxes, while small, were a bit heavy (computer parts).

Waiting to cross the street: I swear oncoming drivers would intentionally slow down (just...PASS MY POSITION so I can cross you idiots!).

People wandered/dawdled in front of me, completely oblivious to the fact that someone with a box weighing half as much as she did was moving quickly toward them. I think I might have actually run into someone, I'm not sure (it's 90 degrees and you can see what I'm hauling, MOVEYERASS!).

I was born in Seattle and lived in Bellevue for my younger childhood, and I don't remember ever even breaking a sweat. (But I do remember snow in Waco, TX, and teaching the neighborhood kids how to build a snowman!)

I can't imagine going without AC in my old(er) age now!

A few weeks ago, our AC decided to take a day off. I woke up at 4 a.m. to it trying to cycle on, and making horrible whistling noises (the freon leaking out). We called the AC company at 8 a.m when they opened, and the only reason they didn't laugh at us for asking for a repair was that we had just bought a completely new system, inside and out, from them 2 years ago. They had a 2 week back log of service calls. They managed to get us in late that afternoon, by which time it was cooler outside, than in and we have had over a month straight of above 100F days!

Well, this might have damaged the AC, so I wouldn't recommend dropping it on any asshat.

What might work in these cases is to simply waltz through the idjit. According to the laws of inertia, greater mass stands a decent chance of winning.
