OK, this is the third baby-left-in-a-car story I've read on here tonight. What the hell?
And it's constantly happening on TV and in the papers. Don't these people learn anything by hearing these stories???

Just a couple years ago, some guy left his baby in the hot car while he was looking for fossils. Sadly, the kid did not make it.

Yay for you and the people who backed you up.

I would consider that some of the people who backed you up but hadn't reported it themselves didn't see the kid - especially the cashier, who probably hadn't been out the front of her store since she opened.

As for the others - some naivety (it must be a doll - noone would leave a child in a car, right?), and the rest I put it down to Kitty Genovese syndrome aka bystander effect. Which is sucky and awful, but human.

My psych prof said that if you ever feel a heart attack or a fit or anything coming on while you're out and about, get into a shop if you possibly can. That makes it a specific person's problem*, and reduces bystander effect.

      * store manager/cashier/etc. Which is kind of sucky for the CSR, but could save your life.

      3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
      4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.
