  • I need a NAME

    quick one.

ok. alot of the time when a patient had xrays (or a catscan or mri or something like that) and they aren't from this area or they're being flown/taken out to another hospital. (variety of reasons) will get a cd of their xrays etc. burned for them. IF its nightshift we have no officestaff so I do this.

Usually not a problem ER calls and says 'patient X is being flown out to toronto we need their images on a disc for the dr's there'

process is fairly simple. I get the patients name and WHAT they had done/what they would like burned onto cd. I look them up in our database of xrays etc. and then burn them to a cd.

Anyways. girl from ER calls. 'yea Loki we have this patient who just had a catscan done and is being flown out we need the scan on a cd'

me: ok no problem whats the patients name?

ER: Kelly... something* (name changed obviously)

me: ok... i need a last name..

ER: kelly... something? kelly something? (said in a hopeful tone as if just saying 'something' will make me intuitvely know the patients full name and allow me to search for their images in our database and burn then to a cd. As there's probably 5000000 kellys that have had xrays/ct's/ultrasounds etc in the past.. oh i dunno 4 months even i need more identification!).

    me: um....

    ER: I'll call you back!

Oh yea.. and when ER finally called back... the CORRECT/FULL name was 100% different than the original name. (kelly something become like.. 'paul smith' for example. nothing REMOTELY close to 'kelly')

so im glad the girl DIDN'T give me a full name or else I would have put a completely WRONG person's tests onto a cd. :s (massive legal issue due to privacy concerns etc.).
