I'm starting to think that the reasons I miss sightings is because I think the customer and clerk know each other and are only joking. Usually I think something is going down, hear laughter from both ends and think "they must know each other". It finally hit me a while back that I probably did witness some SC's in action, but I just passed it off as some joking around because the cashier may be required to entertain customers even when they are being difficult.
Like today, just when I was walking into this convenience store, I see this woman arguing with the cashier over something (I think it was over cigarettes) "I always get this crap from you blah blah blah" I'm thinking "Oh a sighting", then I hear her start laughing and the guy acting friendly with her like he knows her. But then when I go up to purchase, I hear them start talking about her and the (owner?) sighs and rolls his eyes at the mention of her. So I'm pretty sure it was a sighting, but had the owner not shown annoyance afterwards, I would have been confused as to what kind of interaction this was.
