So the area I live in has bears. A lot of them. And being spring, well, there are more than usual. Now I live in a pretty densely populated area, in an apt complex that is one of three practically on top of each other, with a fourth just up the road. Despite them being everywhere, I have never seen a bear in my complex.
So the beginning of my trip to work is the same way, county highway with businesses, strip malls etc. Not very wooded etc. I'm tootling along today and catch something out of hte corner of my eye. I look, then back to the road, then back again. It was a bear, on the other side of the divided road, sort of hanging on to the guardrail, possibly trying to haul itself up and over! I had to keep going but hopefully it stayed put. WHile the other side has way less traffic than the way I was going, I'd hate for it to get smooshed. It was a young one, but still a couple hundred pounds, so probably not a lot of sense.
