One thing I hate about this town are those few "stunt drivers" who pull crazy maneuvers just to try to get a driving advantage over those around them. I nearly got sideswiped by one today.
On the way to pick up my oldest at preschool, I have to turn right from one street, go maybe half a block, and turn left onto another side street. That half-block is on a main road in town, which is normally two lanes either direction with a turn lane in the middle. Because of the snow, the outermost lanes are blocked, meaning there's one driving lane either way, and then a left-turn lane in the middle. Half of that turn lane is from Main Drag onto First Side Street (the one I turned off of), and the other half of the lane is from Main Drag onto Second Side Street (the one I was turning onto). Seeing as I had to make that turn onto Second, I obviously started to pull into the half of the turn lane that was meant for me.
Only to be nearly hit by someone who just had to get into his half of the turn lane (turning onto First) early. I swerved out of his way, but he didn't even flinch. I happened to glance in my rearview after I was able to get into the turn lane, only to see Stunt Man swerving back into the through lane ahead of the straight traffic.
So this bozo nearly sideswiped me just so he could use the turn lane to jump the three cars in the through lane. Hope that was worth it, creep.
