  • Cut off in front of a cop

It's only a mile to the bank, but there's so much suck on the roads...

It's called sharing the roads. Try it sometime.

On this one stretch, there are three northbound lanes. Eventually, some of these become turn lanes at an intersection. It looks like this: Left turn only lane, straight/left turn lane, right turn only lane. I must note that when you go straight across, there are two lanes, and if you want the right lane you are technically supposed to stay in your lane across the intersection, and then move to the right lane. (If my description is too confusing, here is a map; you'll be looking at Ellis St.)

I was in the right-hand lane behind a couple cyclists, who eventually wanted to go straight. As they approached the intersection, they tried to move over. One of them made it, but cars were not letting the other cyclist in. Eventually, we reached the intersection. The cyclist, though in the right-turn lane, hugged the lane she wanted as close as she could, and followed it straight across the intersection to the right-hand lane on the other side. Now, this while this move is questionably legal, it was obvious she'd been trying to get over so she could go straight across, and the car drivers in the other lane were just being douchebags. So when the car not letting the cyclist in tried to cut straight to the right lane and couldn't, on account of the cyclist being there, they let out a nice long honk. They should have just let the cyclist in when she wanted in, and she wouldn't have been in their way.

Almost hit a pedestrian and me...too bad the cop missed it

I was approaching an intersection where a pedestrian was crossing. A white pick-up in the cross traffic was turning right on red. He came to a sudden halt in the crosswalk, and almost hit the pedestrian! The pedestrian was already almost across that lane, and the truck came within inches of hitting him from behind. The pedestrian stopped, turned around, and started yelling at him. The driver, who had his window down, just had a blank look on his face the whole time. He shrugged, and drove off...just as I entered the intersection and cut me off!

What sucks is that just as he almost hit the pedestrian, a police car was turning left onto that side street. I don't think the officer saw what happened, though. After the truck cut me off, he kept staring in his rearview mirror rather than paying attention to the road, and I presume he was looking to see if the cop turned around. Since he was so fixated at staring my way, I flipped him the bird.

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
