• WHAT happened to your phone?

Here are two of the three stories I have from my customer service experience. I am posting them here despite them not being sucky just because I don't know where else to place them. The third story will not be posted until I find a new job, as I don’t want to give too much information about my current employer.

Both these stories come from my time taking claims for a cell phone insurer. It was one of the big two in American cell phone insurers. They are not verbatim as it was over a year ago.

What was that noise?

Blah, blah, blah
ME: So sir was the phone lost, stolen, or does it have liquid or physical damage?
Contractor (C): I guess you could say it was lost.
ME: Ok, do you know where about it was lost?
C: Yes, it was in the lot. What happened was one of my guys was in the backhoe when his phone fell out. It was then ran over by the machine and smashed and buried, though I don’t know where to start digging for it.
ME (chuckling a little since the caller was too): I see, I’ll just indicate it is unrecoverable.
(At this point I hear picked up volume form the other end of the line. Something big just happened.)
ME: Sir is everything ok over there? I’m hearing a lot of confusion.
C: Yah, the idiots just hit a water main. (I do remember he did call them idiots.)
ME: Are they alright? (There is much pressure in those mains.)
C: They’re fine.
ME: Do they have their phones on them? Do we need to fill out more claims.
C: No, the phones will be fine.
Blah, blah, blah call finished.

Blah, blah, blah

ME: So sir was the phone lost, stolen, or does it have liquid or physical damage?
TEACH: Physical damage.
ME: Can you describe what happened please?
T: I’m an 8th grade teacher at an all boys school. The phone was on my desk in the classroom when I had to step out of the room to talk to one of the other staff members. When I came back into the room my phone was in pieces on my desk. The kids all said they had nothing to do with it.
ME: (Sure. Both you and I believe that.) Uh-huh.
T: Right so my cell phone just esploded.
ME: Okay, I’ll just fill out the claim. If it gets approved you receive a call back.

Yes I filed the claim having reasonable doubt but the didn’t pay me or train me to make decisions on any claims.
