  • We got scammed

    We got scammed.

Long story short, this really odd man several states away vacilated between wanting special item, not wanting it, then wanting it desperately. And, could we have it modified just so?

So we did, and took pictures of the item, boxed it up, and sent it to him. The retail cost was about $1200.

Cue angry calls a few days later, It's damaged, he wants a refund. He's burning up the phone lines with his complaints, yelling at the owner, his brother's a cop, we'll be sorry. Days of this. He finally sends it back and owner just wants this over with. She gives him the refund, even though the thing we get back has been - well, destroyed. (Previously, we thought 'modified item' could still be sold if the right customer walked in) The man-hours involved in his phone calls alone - the owner is just over it.

Vendor rep stopped by and looked at destroyed item. Looked at the code inside and said "This wasn't YOUR item, it came from another store." and in checking, what the scammer sent us was a different size than what we sent him.

Inquiring minds want ot know, so I googled his name and "fraud."

There was a whole long discussion by a subset of sellers who use that famous online 'auction' site - same fellow, Same name, address, city and state - and the discussion goes back three years, at least. Similar MO - except he's paying there, then filing a claim that it never arrived, or it's damaged. And auction site skews toward favoring the customer.

I'm guessing he can't do business lwhere he lives, because he's burned all his bridges there.
