Co-Worker: Hey, where was the guy I sent to you? *Describes person that just brushed me off* I told him you would know Automotive books, and pointed you out to him.
Me: I was the wrong gender to begin with.

Ah, but a "real gentleman" has to apologise for using naughty words in frnt of a lady - because a lady is too delicate to hear such awful things. (Never mind that she bears children, changes diapers etc etc Funny how the delicate sex traditionally has to do most of the gross tasks, isn't it.)

But a real gentleman DOESN'T have to apologise for treating a lady like a lady - that is to say, acting as though she is stupid, weak and incapable. I have never understood this myself. I am a man, and I can't understand why one would want to form a partnership with someone you considered to be "worse" than oneself in every way. Women are stupid etc etc but I want one of my very own.

Of course, there is a proof that most women have poor judgement - they marry men.

BTW, the old man apologised for using such rude words... As he was leaving. I don't think he would have apologised for not letting me help, though. It made me feel a little bit better, but anyway, that's one BIG thing I can't understand.

Guess I'm lucky then.

I'm working in a very very masculine workplace. The job itself is IT, helpdesk, but 80% of the people I'm working with are men. Union guys - teamsters, carpentry...you name it - anything NON computerish.

And they've all learned who I am in 2 weeks so when they see me they DO ask for help! Even better, I have to move old steel desks (remember those - full size buggers) to get to cabling...the guys jump up and help me without me asking much!

They tease me a bit but I give it right back - the first two days a lot of guys were saying "I like her, she'll fit right in." To me that was the best!

Helped an older gent around 60ish today- he didn't know how to use a Global Address book (the one in Outlook). Taught him some tricks, he's wanting more lessons.

Yeah, I get that all the time at work... I work at a hotel call center, therefore I must be female or gay... and since I have an obviosly masculine name (my voice is somewhat ambigous though on the phone, which only makes things worse) i [I]must[I] be gay... which I'm not sure how that reconciles with the "you're in utah you must be mormon" mentallity (i guess they think I'm a gay mormon... two things which are mutually exclusive).

When I worked at a certain radio hut, I got this 'you're a woman' reasoning all the time, and there were quite a few men that I wouldn't approach anymore due to this.
I was ok with that, to each their own, some men are still part of the ol' boys club.

The worst, however, was a WOMAN who said I couldn't help her because I was a woman.

She comes in with a corded phone that wasn't working correctly. The caller ID screen was blank and she wanted it fixed. I told her I was more than happy to help her and put my hand out for the phone.

It's been a couple years so I don't remember the exact dialog, but she basically told me no, that I am a woman and don't know these things, and wouldn't physically allow me to touch her phone. My manager comes out to assist her, and instead of having him look at the phone, she wants to pick out a new one. I insisted again that I could fix it if I look at it, and again she says no because I am a woman. I was almost going to jump the counter when my manager tells me to go do something else. She buys a new phone, and leaves the 'broken' one behind because it was 'junk'.

I looked at it right after she left, and the only thing wrong was she had put the batteries in backwards.

Ok lady, just because you are dumb as bricks, doesn't mean all women are!
This lady was only in her 30s-40s by the way.

Here is the best thing I ever saw happen to men with that attitude.

I was playing poker at a casino, mostly infested with old, bitter men. A pretty young girl sat down at the opposite end of the table. I was watching carefully (after all it was real money we were playing for)

She handed over her cash and received her chips. $200 worth of $5 chips was two stacks of 20 chips. She cut one stack into piles of 5, restacked them and pushed them against the other stack. I thought to myself "She's a dealer!"

The old men sitting next to me started muttering to each other - "Pretty little thing. What would she know about poker!" "We're going to take her money - she won't know what hit her."

Only problem was, she took their money. After she was finished, and was leaving the table, I asked her where she worked.

"I deal poker at (Other casino)"

She didn't get any of my money.

I think there are certain men out there trying desperately to bring it back in vogue.

As for me, I embody a lot of girly stereotypes, but I greatly admire women who don't. Still, I believe that everyone, male or female, deserves the benefit of the doubt at their jobs in addition to being treated equally as human beings in everyday life.

Actually, he said, "You're a woman. You don't know about such things I'm going to talk to that male person over there." (translated from Finnish, not word-to-word) So he explicitly said that because I'm a woman I can't handle the matter.

I'm a guy. I know almost nothing about how my car or computer work, strip clubs really don't do it for me (anymore), fishing has never interested me, I know how to dress nicely, guns really don't interest me and kind of make me nervous, and professional wrestling bores the piss out of me.

Hmhm... I'm a girl. I know pretty much about how my car and computer work, I'm interested in fishing, I like to wear jeans and an army-style sweater (NOT pink camo... ), and I occasionally take an airsoft game (real-looking weapons shooting small plastic ammo). But I'm also engaged to a guy that likes to do what I do, too.

Heh, I suppose I'm a bit of a freak... It just really doesn't matter me. I like being weird and doing things I like to do. And clothing is a thing one should feel comfortable in. Here it's ca -2 degrees Celsius (around 29 F) and still I see people wearing mini-skirts or such idiotic clothing. Sorry, I'm very tired so my thought just wanders around not making any kind of sense.

No, I'm not gay. Not even metrosexual. Hell, I'm a hardcore football fan who likes to drive fast, drink beer, smoke cigars, and look at chicks.

I'm a guy. I just don't fit into every stereotype people have. And I am just fine with that. And fine with having my computer or car fixed by a woman who knows what she's doing. I'm not threatened by women doing "men's" jobs, nor by having women as my bosses.

I'm a guy. I'm secure with myself and what I do and what I like to do.

Oh Ive had to deal with this for years. Crusty engineers, sailors, members of the old boys club. Ive been working with them long enough that now they depend on me to make their computers work.

And when they ask for help now? I shout out "I cant do that! Im a giiiiirrrrrrllllllllll"

They have the grace to still look embarrassed, and I get a chuckle everytime.

I don't have a problem with women doing the same jobs the men do. In fact, I welcome women showing they can be just as tough as the guys on virtually anything.
