Once he leaves, though, someone else will move in. Since I started working at the motel, there's ALWAYS at least one. They'll move in within a week of the previous one moving out. I think it's a law of physics or something that we have to have one of these mentally disabled people in our motel at all times.

Oh, yeah, it's a ecological niche thing.

It's like with feral cats. You can't just remove feral cats, 'cause new ones will show up, so you have to get the feral ones you have spayed/neutered and immunized, and let them dwindle due to attrition. It somehow keeps new ones from showing up in the same manner.

But how sad. Poor guy. Too bad his relatives can't be tracked down.

Oh, we get paid. He pays weekly. He's on disability or SS or something, and the checks from the government come in regularly.

Dunno if we've started the legal process yet. Would really rather get him help than just kick him out, though, since he doesn't seem to really function in society all that well.

Before this guy, we had the guy who had to go fight the war in Canada (in Yukon Territory, if I recall correctly...apparently lots of people dying up there in that war) and before that it was the crazy, creepy cat guy.

I know it sucks but your hotel probably should start the legal process of getting him kicked out. You're not equipped to take care of him and his family isn't there but he does need help. It's sad that probably the best thing to do for him would be to get him into a group home or your state's equivalent.

He's been here for over a year and a half (his brother dropped him off, said he was going to get him into assisted living, and then dissappeared...sad story, really), so we can't just kick him out...we'd have to go through a long, legal process to evict him. When his meds are off balance (or he just stops taking them), he will start SCREAMING!

I always emphasize that someone is at the front office 24/7, and if we get a complaint regarding this guest, we can call him and calm him down, but that's only if a guest lets us know he's screaming...

Waitwaitwait....hold on...you've just said it sounded like someone was being tortured? And yet you told no one when it happened? Not even the police? What kind of a heartless SOB are you?!?! (I've heard the screaming...if I didn't know about his condition and what was happening, I'd call the cops since it does sound like someone being tortured. Can't easily kick him out, though...)

I can understand your position, but I suspect that the long legal process might have been finished sometime over the course of an entire year.

Although it would be nice if you could track down the brother and prosecute his sorry ass for abandonment of a dependent, whatever category the guy falls under.

Yeah, we get that too; someone will complain days or weeks later about an incident they say happened, but of course they never reported it at the time. We have to make a report still, but they won't get anything out of it because A) they left property, B) they didn't report it when it happened. We have no proof.

Some woman just tried something like that, something that was in the papers and would have been bad for us had it been true. But as it turned out, she finally admitted to police she made the whole story up. I guess our location was the first place that popped into her head for her sick fantasy.

This is only mildly aside, yet relevant nonetheless.

When I'm in the Student Union basement, gaming with the clubs there in my spare time when I'm at school, and I happen to lose a match of Super Smash Bros, it has become "the thing to do" to yell out one of any number of stupid excuses.

• The fan was blowing into my eyes anyway.
• The clicking of your controllers distracted me.
• There was a pea under my chair and I felt it for the whole match.
• Your subconscious sexual feelings toward me distracted me. Put them away.
• (My personal favorites: ) The sun was in my eyes. (Underground. ^-^ )
• The moon was in my eyes. ( Heheheh. <3 )

People love coming up with excuses. It makes them feel creative and justified for whatever they do. Sometimes people would rather establish an excuse and see how well it stands up, than get what they need to do done.

One thing I will NEVER understand is why a guest will "endure" noise or a annoying sound all night, which causes them to not sleep well, go to work, and weeks later complain about how they didn't get sleep because, as an example, the highway kept them up or something.


If I could not sleep due to noise, I would ask the desk to move right away. If that isn't doable, then I would complain.

Not our guests...oh no. Money is more important then being able to work the next day apparently.


Oh wait, I bet it's just the money.


Got news for some people. Yeah, our rooms are expensive, but guess what? We got bills to pay & I gotta make a living too a-hole!
