Yes, it's just as insulting as him being offended because a total stranger isn't "manly" enough.
Besides, female-female homosexuality has historically been "less offensive" than male-male homosexuality because of the lack of penetration involved. When men hook up, the receiver has historically been scorned more because he is taking on a female role (submitting to another man). It doesn't really make a lot of sense logically, but then neither does getting offended about what any consenting adults do in the privacy of their bedrooms.
