I'll bet that even if they had showed up and found enough tables to be sat together, they would have found something else to bitch and moan about!
-Why are you serving those other people at the bar before MEEEEEEEEEE?? It's MY WEEEEEEDDDING!!!
- Why are those people sitting near us, make them go away, it's MY WEEEEEDING NIGHT!!
- Why won't you give us a discount? It's MY WEEEEDING!! and we have 30 people paying good money!!!
and so on and so on!!
I wouldn't feel too bad about the patrons laughing at them, they all sound too stupid to notice!

We had a fish'n'chip van that set up shop outside the hall for our wedding (well, they turned up in an old-fashioned Brighton tram, which was even cooler). The fish'n'chips (and the tram) was absolutely AMAZINGQuoth Lace Neil Singer View PostI'd far rather have fish and chips out in the function room than have to sit down and eat teeny portions of posho food in some stick up the butt restaurant, thanks very much.

That's the place for that all right.Quoth AccountingDrone View PostI could see reserving the deck at Jester's bar for a reception. mmmmm rum drinks!
Full disclosure: we reserved our reception venue well in advance (about a year). We had the ceremony in the hotel atrium and the reception in a banquet room.

Not to mention the fact that some people, like me, would much prefer the relaxed atmosphere of a pub to some stuffy posh restaurant. I'd far rather have fish and chips out in the function room than have to sit down and eat teeny portions of posho food in some stick up the butt restaurant, thanks very much. I also like the idea of having a bar so that people can pay for their own drink, rather than Fiance and I having to pay for it all.

Quoth emax4 View PostAnd no wedding party in their right mind goes to a pub instead of a real wedding reception after getting married! BOO-YA!
I got married in front of the bar at a restaurant.
We turned up, got hitched, and sat back down to eat.
We had 30 people, and booked the restaurant's $35 set menu. It gave people the option of 3 entrees, 5 mains and 3 deserts, plus bread, cheese and nuts to follow. Meals 5 times the size of those portions you get at reception centres.
Even with a grand on the bar tab, we ended up paying less than 3K for the entire wedding party, including the hotel room afterwards.

Who the hell goes to a PUB on their wedding night unless it was for a couple of toasts on their behalf? What, they couldn't afford a decent meal other than that??? "You're ruining my wedding!"
Yeah, right.
I wonder how the groom is going to deal with Mrs. Entitlement here.

I wonder if it was the FOB who told her that he would take care of it all...and then failed so badly...

While I plan on doing something similar for my wedding day, it will be because there is no alcohol allowed at our reception (in the church we're getting married at). And since I am getting married on St. Patrick's day I realize full well that it will be a standing room only situation at the place we planned on grabbing a drink or two at. While I would have preferred to reserve a room or something to drink in at our favorite pub, it pretty much proves to be impossible. I don't blame a bar/pub/restaurant for turning away a small wedding party to get a large bunch of Americans wishing they were Irish.

We're intending on getting married on a beach and then finding the nearest beach-hut/beachside diner so we can all have burgers or something on the beach. Not because we're cheap, but because we're dirt poor lol.
I still intend on going to the diner or whatever a few days before hand to ask if we could just put some tables together etc.

Oh Man, I would love to see something like that. 'Here is your just desserts stupid people.'Quoth wolfie View PostI can just imagine the shit fit the wedding party would have thrown if ANOTHER wedding party had shown up at the pub, and been directed to a set of tables because the second party had *GASP* booked ahead.

My, what a lovely portrait you have just painted...Quoth Irving Patrick Freleigh View PostThe main dish is a prime rib the size of a toilet seat.
Obviously FOB has done quite a poor job of teaching his daughter the game of life. I might feel sorry for her "big day" not going as planned if there WERE any plans, but apparently not. Hey, have your wedding/reception/whatever wherever you please, and of course as long as it's OK with the owner/manager of said place, but why would anyone think a public eating/drinking establishment would be able to accommodate an unexpected WEDDING RECEPTION on a Saturday night?? My brain just asploded...
