Specifically Bossman for my "Main" site. Given that of the 10 shifts I can do per week, I work 3 of them at this particular site, I've now referred to it as my "Main" site. Other sites will have names forthcoming.
Over the Christmasholidays, we had a change of bossman. Old Bossman left to work for an independently-run after-school care program (basically, one that's run by the school itself and not us. They're still bound by government regulations, but are a bit more flexible) and the current Bossman moved in. If I thought that Old Bossman was good, I think new Bossman is MUCH MUCH better.
How?
-If you have a look at my "Horribly Inappropriate Conversations" thread, he's been known to slip straight into the gutterminded manner. It's good, but we also do get the work done. Compared to old Bossman, who I could NOT joke around with.
-I have had 2 breakdowns over the last year: one out of frustration and one that was more-or-less anxiety induced (and no, I have not "come out" to ANYONE at work about that barring two of my coworkers). BOth times he's given me sage advice and given me a chance to cool down, which does work.
-The ONE time so far this year that I've lost it with a child (not in the "I will get fired for something inappropriate but totally justified" sense, more the "JP-from-Hells-Kitchen-screams-at-Van" sense), he took me aside, calmed me down and we talked, but also called out the other kid for his behaviour right there and then. Again, advice, no write-ups or anything like that. I still had an anxiety attack, but it was on the way home.
-He's actually willing to show me stuff! I suspect he wants to retain staff since some of the kids do give you a VERY rough time there (the parents are aware of it, do not make excuses for it and will call the kid out on their poor behaviour
) and as a result, has been aiming to show all the permanent staff how to do admin stuff. End result=more time for him to play with the kids.
-Today he wanted me to go for my supervising certification, which is the first step to actually coordinating. Another staff member is also going to go for his certification. One major difference-he's mostly tied to around 2-3 sites, I'm tied to 4-5 (Four permanently, one occasionally). We're also both applying on different grounds (his is on the requirement of 3 years experience, mine is based on my degree + the 2.5[roughly] years experience).
-He's also more open with communication. I read through the staff communications book today and there was bugger-all in there...most of it was from 2 years ago, the stuff that was from last year was around the time I came on. NONE of it had been shown to me what-so-ever. Now the book is actually being used as a 2-step process. (that is, we get emails and we also sign it)
