I work in the photo department of my local Walgreens, and yesterday, we were having some technical difficulties. We drained the printer chemicals to refresh them and the printer was taking upwards of 5 hours longer to get back up to the correct temperature than it should have been.
I had a TON of orders backing up and thankfully, none of my customers were being too snarly about it.
One lady came in who always puts in kiosk orders... that is, puts her memory card into a little kiosk to pick which pictures she wants to print. I told her that we were having some problems, and it might be tomorrow morning before we could get her order ready. Fine, no problem.
Before she leaves, she comes up and asks to speak to the store manager... CRAP! What did I do?! I ask her if there's something I can help her with, so as to not bother GM, but she was insistent on speaking with him. So Jack comes out, and she proceeds to tell him how awesome of an employee I am, and that I'm always smiling when she comes in, and I seem to genuinely enjoy my job. She also said it's a shame that more customers don't take the time to praise a hardworking employee, but will bitch in a heartbeat about any little thing that doesn't go there way.
From that point on, I had an AWESOME day. I don't necessarily dislike my job, but it has it's moments... but yesterday was great. It's so cool to have customers who appreciate what we do for them in our lowly customer service jobs.
